Kyra Phillips of CNN left her mike open while going to the ladies room yesterday and it’s already on YouTube for eternity. Is this really news? No one can make a mistake any longer without it being forever immortalized. Is this a path we want to go down? Is it one we should go down? http://www.townhall.com/columnists/column.aspx?UrlTitle=youtube,_not_me&ns=Kathl eenParker&dt=08/25/2006&page=full&comments=true

I don't know if it should be labled "Kyra phillips forgets..." because to the best of my knowledge mic muting is done by the audio controller. Regardless of her forgetting to turn it off, it should've been caught and fixed by somone in the control room quicker. |

I think it depends on the nature of the mistake and the scale of the consequences. This kind of "news item" only has 14 minutes left. It's funny (because it didn't happen to us), but ultimately inconsequential. Things like speeches on aircraft carriers - those are moments with long-term effects that seriously impact countless lives. |
