Update. I knocked on the neighbor's door today. The wife was so sweet and very apologetic. She told me that she's told them before to go home and call each other on the phone if they want to talk. She shook her head and was really embarassed when I told her about the one very rude person. She apologized so many times, I almost felt bad. I tried to assure her that I knew it wasn't her fault and was only asking her to remind them again. So, this week, I won't bother giving them a warning. I'll just call MPD after 10 minutes. I suggest anyone else on the block who is disturbed by this should also feel free. Just remember to use the non-emergency number: 973-762-3400 #6 for Desk Sergeant. |

Again: Bug foggers. Just get a few. You don't have to use them. |

No, no. SOR is almost right. This is a prayer gathering. It's "God bless, Please STFU. Thank you. Have a good night. And God Bless." |

If there is any backtalk next time, perhaps ask a question they can relate to: "WWJD?" |

Greenetree, now that I've thought about it some more, skip the bug foggers. They go against my pro-environment leanings. I have a better idea. Have a pile of us over tomorrow night and we'll hang out until the weekly meeting is over. We'll make note of who the loudest yakkers are, and 3 or 4 of us will follow each of them home. We will then have loud conversations in front of their house for an hour or two. Sometimes people truly don't understand that something is wrong or rude until it happens to them. |

Somewhat similar scenario...my new neighbors have businesses in their home. Many cars are parked in their driveway and in front of their house. Today one of the employees parked in front of my house. Not such a big deal, except that we don't have a sidewalk and she parked directly in front of our walkway. The homeowners are nice people, but it really irks me to have a stranger blocking my walkway 8 hours a day. Is that petty? Should I just let it go today and hope it doesn't continue? |

VIG, I think you'll have to get used to it. You might paint the street (illegally) with diagonal stripes in front of your walkway, but if it doesn't work, I think the sooner you give up, the better off you'll be. The street is public property. I guess this might be the one downside to your new house. How are you loving your new house, by the way?

Hmmm, appreciate the comments but if it does continue we might have to ask the homeowner if the employee can park 10 feet up so our walkway isn't totally blocked. I don't think that would be an unreasonable request. Tom, love the neighborhood and the house, though the projects and repairs needed are plentiful! Pippi says I'd be bored otherwise! |

VIG glad you like the new house. We have a similar problem with our neighbors, but since I am not home every day it doesn't bother me so much. The funny thing is they put their car in front of our house, and they have a driveway..... |

Yeah, you could request that they ask others not to park there, and they may comply, and they may not. It's up to them. Yeah, you probably would be bored if you didn't need to run all those projects.

All I heard last night was softly closing car doors. If I hadn't seen the cars parked outside, I never would have known that they were there. I have no idea what the minister said to them, but I'd hate to piss god off in that church! Rosiegirl - how went your end of the street? |

All was quiet again, except for those DAMN bongos!!! Last week, when I heard them, I swore I was losing my mind!! When I opened the back door, I was expecting to hear it, but even louder. It was very faint so I couldn't figure it out. I thought I was losing my mind. Last night, DH heard them and said something to me(he was away last week). Because it wasn't terribly loud, I told him not to make a big deal about it; it can and HAS been worse. I was not suprised by the response you got when you approached them this weekend. Like I said, other than their weekly Wed. gatherings, I NEVER hear a peep from that house. Glad all was quiet for you and TS this week. Hopefully it will continue. |

I think that the bongos are part of the religion. Strangely enough, I've never heard them. We're probably one house further away than you are. There is, unfortunately, nothing that can be done about the bongos, as long as they stop before 11p and are not using amplified sound. I suppose we could complain about operating a church in a residential neighborhood without the zoning permits, but that seems over the top. And I doubt that they are really operating a church; it's just a prayer meeting that last about an hour. Hey - at least they don't go around knokcing on doors to spread The Word on weekend mornings! |
