Why is there a Bush ad on the MOL homepage. It must be a banner ad. Why are political ads allowed on the MOL homepage!!!! I DEMAND EQUAL ACCESS FOR OTHER CANDIDATES!!!! |

tourne, I think you mean equal a¢¢e$$. I can't recall the poster, but one of our Republican posters referred to doing this as a Christmas gift. |

What a waste of money! Putting a Bush ad on MOL, is like putting a Pork ad in Israel...or a Beef ad in India...or a Beer ad in Utah.... or a Milk ad in China. Sometimes there just isn't any market demand for some products. |

The ad does not have any reference to who paid for it!!! It, therefore looks like it is put on by MOL itself. How is this right?! I CALL FOR A BOYCOTT ON ALL MOL ADVERTISING!!! |

Poor Tourne, a Democrat lost on a site paid for by Republicans.

The ad was purchased by a poster (NOT Dave), and this poster (MJ) has made no secret of it - check the "Happy Holidays Republicans" thread. Dave is being very non-partisan about this, and I admire him for it in light of how he feels about Bush. |

I think that all political ads should be banned. Not everybody reads the message boards on MOL. At the very least, it should be made clear on the ad who paid for it. |

if you look on the homepage - the company's name appears as sponsor of the ad underneath it. |

Tourne, Well, this a private board. And it's pretty clear who paid for it. |

Here, go to this link: http://www.georgewbush.org/index.asp It is equal time to the one in the banner ad; we couldn't stop laughing when we saw it!

Guys, get a life. If you don't like the ad, don't read it. Although, I seem to remember that media ads have to have the name of the organization that payed for them. Is MOL media? |

There is precedent for political banner ads on MOL. Candidates for TC have done it for years. This year the Dems had ads for Ryan-DeLuca and Pettis-Leventhal. The Reps had ads for Ziegler-May and there was also the Democrats for Ziegler-May banner ad. I have no problem with a banner ad for President George W. Bush our Commander In Chief and would have no problem if banner ads were purchased for any of the nine odd Democrat candidates. Ed May |

someone is spending his own hard earned $$$ to advertise a candidate who's got $200MM to spend on his own ads. I'd say this falls under the category of "a fool and his money." |

I'd say he put his money where his mouth is. Something many on this board would know little about. I agree with Bobk on this one. If you don't like it ignore it or pay to put up an ad to sponsor your own favorite candidate. |

sportsnut: I'd say he put his money where his mouth is. Something many on this board would know little about. this statement is presumptuous, pious and condescending. how would you know whether others on this board put their money where their mouth is? my assumption would be just the opposite of yours: that most posters on this board contribute their money and other resources regularly, like I do. but why is your standard putting your "money" where your mouth is? plenty of people do far more, and put their time and effort where their mouths are. this is actually a more effective tool than just putting up "money". and in this regard, please, anyone who cares about preserving reproductive freedom, consider joining Planned Parenthood's march in Washington DC April 25, 2004. see their website at www.plannedparenthood.org. as they point out, activism and demonstrations have yielded real changes. and, of course, if you can't spare the time, your financial donation would be helpful instead. |

Leave the owner of the site outta this, he's entitled to make a buck (we don't pay him anything). Mayhew-Funny post but your wrong on the beer ads in Utah. Yea it's a dry state and most are Mormons but I used to spend a lot of time in Utah and a lot of my friends/business contacts considered themselves, "Jack Mormons". This means during the day they acted very reserved but at night they frequented private drinking clubs and got loaded. I spent many a night in Salt Lake City trying to get out of a club, when friends kept pleading for 1 more beer. |

In my experience most people don't put their money or their time behind things they generally support. If you do that's great. I'm happy for you. People don't often realize that it feels good to support the things you believe in especially when its more than just contributing a check. My cliche was not meant as a swipe against all MOL posters just the ones who were bitching about this particular thread. As I said before if you don't like it stop bitchin' and pony up the money for your own ad. |

It's pretty silly to complain that somebody bought a Bush ad on MOL. But I stand by my earlier point that the $$ could be put to better use (including by other Republican congressional or Senate candidates) than to buy an ad for a guy who's sitting on a mountain of cash already. I've already contributed to a candidate, but I won't be buying any ads on MOL (sorry, Dave and Jamie). The candidate has media buyers and other staff members who can figure out how best to use the money people like me send them. |

I think this thread is quite amusing.. How dare anyone do a political ad on Maplewood online! Yikes. How dare Dave and Jamie take an ad from one of the two parties in our two party system. C'mon. It’s an ad. People already know where their political leanings are; an ad doesn't change anyone's mind. I agree with Sportsnut, get over it or start a collection for your counter-cause. Part of what keeps the board interesting and keeps M-Online interesting is the diverse opinions on the board. Bump.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAVE A SITE THAT HOUSES A FEW DOZEN COMMUNISTS.
