well, that's an interesting list.
#2: One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss: like most households with a young child, we own this though we might not have read it since she was 5.
#3: The Three Junes: currently reading (from the library): fairly interesting novel, not riveting
#9: The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd: I liked this one a lot - some mysteries about the connections between generations of women escaping their constricting lives. (library)
#12: The Lovely Bones: A Novel by Alice Sebold: pretty sad, and seems to be part of a theme involving young people, death and regrets. It was frustratingly unresolved at the end. (library)

I'm surprised the list has so little in the self-improvement & parenting categories! But maybe there are just too many possible titles. Or, of course, our reading doesn't show up on the purchase lists because so many of us are avid library users!

The list for South Orange is entirely different, though that's a surprise, given the similarity in the demographics. My guess is that the sample sizes are small and therefore inaccurate.

But hey, this is fun anyway. Thanks for that trick, extuscan.

The sample sizes are very small...you'd be surprised how few buys are required in order to influence the number rankings on Amazon.

I find amazon's applications the coolest going, and this one, too. My household bought mysteries (Nevada Barr, Reginald Hill, Elizabeth George), books about flower arranging, about Wales, classic DVDs, a mess of old Frank Zappa (I wonder if this app includes purchases from related stores?). I guess ours were all "onesies," though.

That "cheese" book has been around for awhile now!
