Brett's Law- Anyone who has this much trouble finding love is too concerned with what they want to get and not enough with what they seek to offer.

BTW, Tookie, how old are? Ever think you may be approaching someone else's "Loser Deadline"?

I think that everyone needs to stop all discussion right now and and then come back after reading Maureen Dowd's "Are Men Necessary?"

For some reason, none of my close (women) friends ever married. They are all 40plus now. I believe that none of them will ever marry because, basically, they've been focussing on their own needs for so long that they're emotionally disabled.

For example, there is probably a very good reason Maureen Dowd isn't married. She seems supremely shrewish to me, and way too thrilled with herself. Why would any man want to spend his life with a competitive narcissist? She's an overgrown high school b*tch.

Even I will admit there is some truth to the common wisdom about women. Maybe we expect too much of men -- if only our expectations were lower we would be more easily satisfied.

"Any man over 35 not married has to be a loser, and unmarried for a reason. The nice guys are all wimps, and the manly ones are all jerks."

what a crock of sh*t. so is a man a loser because he chooses not to marry? and are there only nice guys and manly guys out there? how about nice manly guys that choose not to marry? where do they fit in tookie's world?

nice manly men do not have to save women from spinsterhood. it's apparent tookie is single for a reason. just live and be happy. don't hang your happiness on whether you are married. i know PLENTY of people that wish they WEREN'T married.

Actually, I believe it is true that good men are rare above a certain age. But that's not a good point to focus on. The real focus is how to attract one. As Brett Weir says, it's more useful to seek to become Ms. Right than looking to find Mr. Right.

Stop feeding the trolls.
From the person who says "don't judge me when you don't know me" comes this gem.

"Any man over 35 not married has to be a loser, and unmarried for a reason. The nice guys are all wimps, and the manly ones are all jerks."

Quote:

I can't say that I love Jesus,
That would be a hollow claim.
He did make some observations
And I'm quoting them today.
"Judge not lest ye be judged."
What a beautiful refrain.
The studio audience disagrees.
Have his lambs all gone astray?

Just because someone has "asked for" a harsh punishment doesn't mean it's our job to mete it out. Maybe Jesus said something to that effect or there's some old proverb.

Tom, as Duncan has pointed out, Tookie is a troll, i.e., a pretend personage put forth to elicit unguarded reactions from online chatterers.

And one might as well have a little fun with a troll. (They have such nice blue hair.)

My assumption is that Tookie is male. Quite possibly Jewish.

Quite possibly tall.

I'm not yet convinced she's a troll. And the best way to deal with trolls is not to acknowledge their existence, which includes not responding to them and not talking about them.

Besides, aren't you sort of morbidly fascinated by the reactionary commentary on Orthodox Jews that Tookie's broadsides brought out?

Why is "over 35" considered to be "older"? I'm 44 and younger than tons of people, and I don't know a lot of losers, either.

On a sort of drift....but, JTA, what is the relevance of the religious afflilation of the "loser" guy you were talking about? I'm not even sure why that was so funny.

There are many reasons why a man over the age of 35 (or 40, or 45, etc.) is unmarried, but being a "loser" does not necessarily have to be one of them. Conversely, women over a certain age are not necessarily losers, either, if they are not married. Point being, being married or not has nothing to do with whether someone is a "loser".

It all depends on how you define yourself. If you define yourself by whether or not you are married, then you judge other people by that same standard. So Tookie believes men over 35 who are not married are losers. Assuming this is true, and not simply a troll post, I would guess (IANAPBIPOOTV) that she feels she is a loser for not being married yet.

If you need to be married to not be a loser, what does that make an over-35 year old unmarried woman?

I can't believe this post.

I have two very good female friends back home in England from High school who are aged 44. Neither has been married (through choice - they've never met any men whom they want to spend their lives with) nor have kids and have their own houses and work full time. They're happy enough and don't even date that often (and when they feel the need they use vibrators LOL!).

My sister-in-law is 50 and has also never married through choice and like my two old school friends she isn't gay. She has her own career which takes up a lot ot time, has her own horse which takes up even more time and sadly as my mother-in-law is now 80 and in failing health she helps to care for her. She certainly isn't bothered about looking for a man....I think she would find it very difficult to have to consider someone else's wants and needs after living on her own since her late teens.

In England they would be called 'spinsters' - ther term 'bachelorette' doesn't exist there.
