Went to the Billy Joel concert at MSG last night (which was alot of fun and much better than I was expecting, actually) and when the band left the stage and the crowd was cheering for an encore, I looked around the arena & virtually everyone was holding up their lit up cell phone screens (instead of lighters). It actually looked very cool. Granted, not as many people have lighters at concerts any longer, but when did this transition to cell phone screens take place? I've been to a number of concerts in recent years & this was the first time I noticed this. Anyone else? |

I first noticed it last Spring, at a U2 concert. Although there, they had an address to "text message" your name to, and then all the names that had been sent could be seen scrolling up on a big screen behind the band. |

Saw it two summers ago at an Indigo Girls concert. I think it started when people would call friends up and hold the phone up so they could hear a favorite song and grew from there. It is pretty regular practice now. Between the lighters and the cell phones there was a period of those break and glow sticks if I recall correctly. |

I noticed it in the fall of 2004 when I took my teenaged daughter to a concert at the Nassau Coliseum. (my one and only such experience so far since my own teen/twenty-something days) |

Soulful...Was it at the Dar Williams Show that night? It couldn't have been the DMB show since that was a radio gig that night. Maybe the Matchbox 20 gig at Radio City that night? Perhaps Weezer in LA? Or Duran Duran at the House of Blues? can ya tell I have too much time on my hands this morning |

Went to the Knitting Factory last night and several times I had to calm my growing impulse to grab and smash on the floor those little camera cell phones everybody was holding to take pictures... GRRRRR.... |

I noticed with the concerts at the Garden State Arts Center a few years back. I think it depends on the band playing. Someone like Simple Plan where there were mostly pre teens through college there wre planty of cells. But Springsteen enough to notice, but way less then Simple Plan. |

I guess it's better for the enviornment than burning off all that butane. Lot less risk of scorching your fingers too. |

5:35 is too early for correct spelling: "environment"
