It's been many years since there's been a proper mainstream comicon in New York. This weekend will be the first (hopefully of many) New York Comicon in the Javits Center. Everyone, and I mean everyone will be there (except for Stan Lee. Sorry.) The programming looks great too. Even if you're not a huge comics fan, go to mock the people in costumes. (My 2 1/2 yo and 11 wk old sons will be two of them.) Hope to see you there. http://www.nycomiccon.com |

I heard it was a disaster. They totally over sold the tickets and did not have nearly enough space for all the people that showed up. The Fire Marshall made them stop admitting people and folks that paid for tickets months in advance, drove four hours to get there and paid $20 for parking were turned away at the door. Some people said they went outside and had to wait on line for two hours just to get back in.

Saturday was pretty bad, but Sunday was much better. The organizers (this was a first-time show) underestimated the interest; as of a week before the show, they hadn't sold that many tickets, and by the time everyone showed up on Saturday, it was too late to expand the space. They offered apologies, refunds, free passes to next year's show, and other schwag to people who couldn't get in. |

Arnomation- you heard correctly. It was probably one of the worstly organized conventions i have ever been to. (And i've been to quite a few.) They didn't count or even consider how many people would be pre-registering (like myself) and sold out most of the tickets WAAAY too early in the morning on saturday, before many even arrived. So, even though my friends and I paid the full admission, AHEAD of everyone else, we weren't given our badges, thus could not get into any of the events. It was terrible organization and planning on their part. I and many others will be sending angry e-mails and demanding a full refund. |
