The Dance Theatre of Harlem will be presenting "Dancing Through Barriers" as a benefit for the Columbia High School Scholarship Fund. The show will be performed at Maplewood Middle School on Sunday, March 19th at 3:00 pm prompt. Tickets are $10/adults & $5/children up to 18. This promises to be a great day of family fun!

"Dancing Through Barriers" functions as a "traveling university", introducing thousands of young people to the art and discipline of dance. This informal demonstration on the art of classical ballet will include a virtual performance with a narrator leading the student's through the process. Narration is interspersed with excerpts performed by the dancers from an eclectic repertoire, and audience interaction is encouraged.

The Columbia High School Scholarship fund was established 85 years ago as a non-profit New Jersey Corporation whose sole purpose is providing financial assisitance to Columbia High School students and graduates who need help paying for higher education of any kind. Many of our recipients are the first in their families to attend college and the scholarships they recieve are an integral part of helping them reach this goal. Over the years grants have been made to students attending two and four year colleges, nursing schools, beauty schools, trade and technical schools as well as graduate schools. The Fund is governed by a group of community volunteers independent of the Board of Education.

Tickets may be ordered in advance by sending a check to:

Sounds like a wonderful event for a great cause in this community. I also support this dance company, so I will be there.

I first saw the Dance Theatre of Harlem perform in Kingston, Jamaica in 1971 and they were magical. I can't wait to see this performance from one of their student's perspectives.

I also know first hand the good that the Columbia High School Scholarship Fund does and look forward to supporting the organization by attending.
