OMG, I had no idea she was that ill. How truly, truly horrible and sad. That poor child. Both parents in such a short time! |

My sister just told me about Dana Reed's passing. How sad. Will has been so much in his short life (I think he's 13); now loosing both of his parents within a few years. |

It's awful. I watched the Rangers' game where they retired Messier's number 11 a few weeks ago and she sang a song. I thought she looked like she was doing so well and she was able to belt out the song. I was totally shocked when I heard. |

It's very sad. She seemed like a very strong, compassionate and talented person. I don't know why this bothers me so much, but I hate the fact that the headline on Yahoo reads "Christopher Reeve's widow dies at 44" I know that being his wife was one role she played in her life and a lot of people know her as that...but doesn't she deserve to have her own name in that headline - it just implies that she doesn't stand out on her own without being recognized as his wife. I'm sure I'm blowing this out of proportion, but it really really gets under my skin. |

Might be a sign of how much of a role stress/grief can play in cancer. I got cancer four years after my mother died, and three years after my father died. Grief, I think, played a small role. I didn't deal well with it. |

Awfully sad news. My thoughts, too, went to their son. Dana Reeve announced her cancer not too long after Chris Reeve died. She was very brave, and very strong -- both during her own illness and her husband's ordeal. For some reason, her death really saddened me on a personal level. People her age (which isn't too much different from my age) shouldn't be dying. |

This kind of thing hits me hard too - on a very personal level! I'm 41, healthy, non-smoker, herbal tea and wheatgrass juice drinker. Never had any serious medical illness. There is a lot of things concerning disease and mortality to keep in mind. I've had people close to me die young from disease or by sudden accident. It's made me think of my own mortality many times. I think about the people I would leave behind (especially my husband and boys). That's why I bought Tim McGraw's CD with the song, "Live Like you are Dyin". The words cut deep and tell you to get right with your life NOW! My best girlfriend died at 38, 4 years ago from Cancer and my mom died last year of colon cancer. I had a friend that died suddenly at 25 because he lost control on his first motorcycle ride, and hit a pole (out in L.A.). People like Dana Reeves (as well as many others - like my hero, Arthur Ashe) show us how to do the right thing during life - so the focus is not the way one died but the way one has lived, and the people they leave behind to carry on can say, "Well done". Well done, Dana Reeves. I'm sure their son will have many arms wrapped around him from now on. |

A strong, remarkable woman. Epitome of grace and dignity with much to teach us all. |
