Olive Oyl, better than the on-screen unctuousness of Ms Kouric. |

Ann Curry is the worst! One time my husband and I caught her interviewing Elvis Costello and she clearly had no idea what she was talking about. His expressions were priceless. I have to say I will not be sorry to see Katie go. I always thought she came across as a bit fake with her whole perky facade, though the way she swings her legs so everyone can see her Jimmy Choos is kind of funny. |

...So it looks like it'll be Meredith Vieira. She used to be such a cutie when she was on "West 57th", CBS's alternative to "60 Minutes" long ago, but those days are gone. Now she's just annoying. Oh, well... Maybe she'll burn out doing both "TODAY" & "Millionaire", and Natalie will get another shot at the job sometime soon...

I would have preferred Campbell Brown. Oh well. Guess I'll just have to watch Fairly Oddparents on Nick. |

OTOH, Here's one of Meredith in her cuter, pre-annoying days...
..and here's her "Sharon Stone" pose...
So maybe she won't totally suck? -s. |

Was Meredith a model at one time? She looks great! I like Meredith and can't stand Katie. Good riddens. I don't understand Katie's desire to become a Hot Momma after losing her husband. The tans, the highlights, the leg shots -- give it a rest! My favorite, and I'm giving away my age now, was Jessica Savitch! Remember her? Smart, funny, and not at all phoney. God bless her. We need another batch of Jessica's and Meredith may just be the beginning. |

Jessica Savitch--now THERE was someone who was a real red hot momma! And crazy as a bedbug to boot. "She had a nut streak in her, but she also had some kind of energy force behind her eyes.----It was like she put on her little custom suit, shot a beam across the room, and zapped you.". That was the way a former co-worker described Jessica Savitch's famous persona which captivated network news viewers in the late 70's and early 80's. She was a tough broad who had worked her off to reach the top of the heap and become was an undisputed TV news superstar. Like many superstars, however, she also developed a reputation as a fame-hungry, drug-addled hellcat, which makes her story just that much more compelling.

Did she also have a drinking problem? I remember her death was a huge event when I was a girl. My grandma loved Jessica so I became a fan via her. Am I imagining it or was alcohol or an unrequited love involved? |

Savitch was one of the first female superstars in network news, and the drive that brought her there was full of demons. She apparently abused alcohol and drugs with great abandon, had an omniverous libido (Ed Bradley was but one of many lovers), nutty friends (one hung himself in her basement using her dog's leash), and a hair-trigger temper. But when she died, she and the driver of the car were stone-cold sober, according to news reports of the toxicology reports. It was a gruesome death--car flipped over in a deep mud puddle, mud pinned the doors and windows closed, and they asphyxiated through slow drowning (three died--the driver, Savitch, and her dog). She may have come across as not phony, but she was often stewed to the gills when doing it. |
