Project 37 briefly posted a clip, which he changed too quickly, and claimed that it was Dr. Who. I was surprised, intrigued, confused, amazed by this clip. Dr. Who? In color? Without a scarf? In a leather jacket? What, where and who is this Who? Then, last night, my questions were answered (or some of them) as I tuned for a rare night of SG 1 on the SciFi. But now they say he is the last Time Lord? No more cardinal like gatherings for Dr. Who to be an inside/outsider of? It's all too much to take in. Help! |

No, it is not the last time lord. Christopher Eccleston only did one season. The new Dr. Who currently running in Britain is David Tennant, a very good young Scottish actor. |

I haven't seen the last couple of incarnations of The Doctor. How does it compare the Tom Baker/Jon Pertwee days ? Do they still have Daleks ? |

Well, in the show I just saw, it's kinda starting up again, he says his planet was destroyed and that he is the last timelord. I've only seen the 1st and 2nd episode and no Daleks yet. I know he will get incarnated again and again, but when last I saw the show, he went back and met with the other timelords regularly. When did this new series start? Where is it showing? It does have some of the humor of the old show, but it's missing some of the charm of really cheap special effects. |

Ah, yes, those wonderful, BBC studio cheap effects. As an adult thinking back, I wonder how we were taken in by them, in these days of Star Wars, etc, but I really do have fond memories growing up with Dr Who. Sat at 6:00 if remember correctly, sitting down with my Dad anticipating how the Dr would outwit The Master this time. Great memories ! |

Yay! Glad my clip caught your eye Jamie said that I had to take my "Fantastic!" avatar down because the filesize was too large. Maybe the Doctor will return, once he sheds a few kilobytes. The new series premiered in the UK this time last year and wound up being the runaway hit of the season. A big coup, as it had kind of degenerated into a joke over the last few years. It's cleverly written, allowing new viewers to jump on while allowing sly continuity references for those that followed the original program. It's still a sci-fi show, but there's a new focus on relationships and an added character dynamic to the Doctor (he's now dealing with being The Last of the Time Lords). Plenty of action and adventure, with healthy doses of off-beat humor to keep things interesting. Being the huge Doctor Who fan that I am, I managed to watch all of the episodes within hours of broadcast last year (although I won't say any more about that here). I was amazed that my wife, who showed zero interest in the old series (and sci-fi in general), was sucked in from start to finish. The chemistry between the Doctor and Rose is great fun to watch and there's a definite arc that progresses through the 13 episodes. Without giving too much away, the Daleks *are* featured in the new series (Episode 6 is entitled "Dalek", and gives them more depth in an hour than they ever managed in "the old days"). Fun stuff, definitely worth checking out! BTW - LazyDog, that's a smegging great icon |

Doctor Who is pretty great stuff. There's something very comforting about cheap BBC soundstages. I have yet to see the new incarnation of the doctor, but hope to check it out sooner rather than later. I hear there's a really good Christmas episode out there. |

There certainly is, but it probably won't air here for some time. In the meantime, this week's episode is a Christmas story of sorts. The Doctor and Rose meet Charles Dickens and encounter aliens on Christmas Eve. Gotta love it |

Do when did it start airing in this country? I'm a hugh fan, but didn't know about this. My husband (who can't abide by all the weird scifi stuff i watch either) liked this as well. I was trying to remember, wasn't there some kind of wacky dog in the old episode? It's been quite a while |

I dunno. It's just that not all of it catches my interest. Stargate seems dumb to me. But I did like this Dr. Who we just saw. It was fun!

Not all of any genre catches anyone's attention. I can easily agree with you though, that there is A LOT of bad sci fi. No argument there. And for the record, Stargate seems dumb to me too. |

I used to like Star Gate when it was the original cast. The banter of Richard Dean Anderson made it worthwhile. But it's changed and I am not as into it as before. I have always been a Dr. Who fan, from the old days. Can't wait to see more episodes. Love the fact that the sound effects and theme music are the same. Remember the female character that wore that skimpy outfit? I think she was from the Tom Baker days, also with K9 the robot dog. |

Dr Who maintains a tremendous degree of nostalgia for folks who were brought up on it. Even though it's not (supposed !) to be comedy, it formed an integral part of the British psyche. Thanks to the BBC for maintaining it's character and not "bringing it into the 21st century"
