I say Christopher- he's had it coming for a long time! Man, are they over-promoting this premiere or what? But I'm still anxious to see it... |

I can't believe the last episode was 21 months ago! HBO has a lot of faith in Sopranos fans. For months I have been saying that, out of principle, I refuse to watch. Of course, now I can't wait till sunday! very nice review on cnn.com (no spoilers here) http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/03/09/tv.sopranos.ap/index.html

Now I'm looking forward to this! -Rant On- However, when I saw the last series, I was still living in Brooklyn. Since moving to NJ, I have not had HBO on my Comcast package (signed up with a special deal on Showtime/Cinemax/Encore). Why do I get the feeling that when I call up Comcast sometime over the next day or so, my cable bill is going to get whacked up to an even more outrageous level just for adding HBO? -Rant off!- |

While I would love to see AJ go south. I feel like Silvo might go for the dirt nap first. Chris is also a good call. |

No way. Paulie's the show's humor, they're not killing him off. Thinking about it more, I'm going with Finn. Big unresolved problem there from last season. |

I thought I'd heard AJ was a big part of this season, and that Paulie is around long enough to run into some trouble. I also heard that the Tony/Chris dynamic was a big part of the season. So my vote is for Silvo. |

Here's what I think should happen in the first episode: *Vito should have an asthma attack and die in the first 15 minutes from inhaling too much cheap cologne, and the wedding should be cancelled. *Barzini, Tattaglia, and Sollozzo should make peace with Sonny based on the fact that they're all Italian. *Sonny should consolidate his power and silence any potential objectors by having Michael whacked before he and Kay leave the compound, then offering Kay a job running hookers in Vegas under Moe Green, with Fredo keeping and eye on her by pretending to be her husband (Potential spinoff here). *Connie should dump Carlo and start a torrid affair with Tessio, who is hung like a horse. *Tom Hagen should quit the Family, become a sports agent, and end up managing Rocky Balboa. *Clemenza and Paulie should get their own show on the Food Network, alternating between "All the ways to make Red Sauce" and "Cannoli to die for". *Everybody should sit around eating oranges and watching the History Channel. -s. |

Paulie is not going to die. I don't think Chrissie is either. I certainly hope it's not Silvio, because he is one of Tony's most trusted henchmen. Junior is a good guess, as are Vito and Finn. Finn, however, is somewhat protected (as I suspect he knows) because he is engaged to Meadow. A strike against him is a strike against Tony. |

I think Finn is going to be one of those non-factors that worked in the short term and won't rise to prominence gagin, i.e. off at dental school. I've thought that Christopher was going to get offed since episode #1, and his various exposures have only put him more at risk- his drug use, his temper, his lack of respect. Throw in his fiancee turning informant and his attempt to shoot Tony at the Bada-Bing and he never should have made it out of last season. Ironically, Chris was saved from extinction by Tony B. whose own demise at Tony's hand may have been the stepping stone he needed to finally deal with Christopher. The hype suggests several mainstream characters meeting their ends; Paulie is an obvious candidate, Vito showed certain proclivities and was openly critical of Tony, Junior is on the decline and Albert Parisi was seen giving tapes to the Feds. However, Chase likes to avoid the obvious and float red herrings, so I look for a very unlikely character to meet his/her end. Silvio, Bacala, Janice and Melfi loom as dark horses. AJ is cpable of bringing about his own demise. The darkest horses are probably Meadow, Carmella and Tony. But you never know...

If it's anything like last season NOBODY is going to get whacked. It'll be more psycho-babble and "tension" and ZZZZZZZZZZZ. Sorry, I find Survivor and the Apprentice more titillating; at least SOMEONE is going to disappear each week. J.B. P.S.- We purchased HBO just for Sopranos and will season pass it on TIVO. |

Without a doubt the first to drop is going to be Vito. Somehow his extra-cirricular activities in the car with the rent-a-cop are going to come out and Tony is known for not likely pillow-biters in his crew.

Yes - surprising! He'll be fine. I'm wondering the news story about tonight's episode read: This last hurrah is divided between 12 episodes debuting Sunday, and a second installment of “The Final Eight,” airing in January 2007. Does this mean we only get 4 episodes now and the final 8 in January '07? |

The death tonight was not a surprise; they set that up from the first scene with that guy. Of course T will be OK. How could the show possibly be as interesting without him? I think it's just showing us how deteriorated Uncle June really is. Nevertheless, it was pretty shocking. The suspense was heightened by the fact that there were no previews of next week's episode. Also - notice how everyone made a thing about Carmela's new car? Like Tony is doing so much better than everyone else? This was definitely better than watching Desperate Housewives. |

For a season opener, I felt there was too much focus on minor characters (Eugene). I liked that they showed you that there is less loyalty in the family than it usually seems. You can be sure that there are still other FBI informants. I am wondering which one of Tony's closest will be part of his downfall.

It seems to me that's the point, doula. I enjoyed the show, and will probably watch it again, just to see who's trying to poison Daddy! The Sopranos was a bit disappointing because no one of "significance" was "whacked." And the guy that did die, did so by his own hand, and it was pretty obvious something was going to happen to him right from the beginning, because he suddenly appeared from the background in to main focus. A little predictable and kind of annoying. I suppose it could be an interesting twist for Tony to die in the first episode, and all the mayhem that would ensue. And they didn't show any previews for next week, so the suspense is somewhat heightened. But they did show (many, many times) the "trailer" for the new season of all the HBO series' and Tony appeared there. Then again, they could have just done that to throw the cast and the viewers off, and he really will die. Although I seriously doubt it. Just my 2 cents--if it's even worth that much. |

Raymond Curto croaks as he's just about to give up Tony's crew- priceless! Yeah, I didn't care too much for the "Further Adventures of Eugene Pontecorvo" either, but he was the season's object lesson- nobody leaves this life alive. Definitely overhyped premiere, but I'll be watching... |

Even funnier than him dying as he's about to give up the crew is that this particular FBI agent (her name is escaping me now) seems to have pretty bad luck where her informants are concerned. First "Ade" disappears on her, now this guy croaks in her car. Good point doula, didn't even think about the "bug" pitcher of tea. Also, I was a little confused: I'm under the impression that "The Prophet" and "Daddy" are each the head of opposing "clans?" And they are each husbands to hoards of sister-wives? And Mama is the "first wife." I have a good friend who is mormon (and you know her too doula). She moved back to Utah a couple years ago. Can't wait to get her "take" on this show. If she even watched it! |

It was a pretty average show apart from the ending. They should take some lessons from the "24" writers on how to start a seson dramatically. At the least - memorable character should have been whacked. I think Tony will be fine - but will be out of commission for an episode or two, which should make things interesting. |
