...well, if you live across the pond that is. The new series starts off with a new Doctor, the tenth Doctor. Check out the videos, trailers, etc., http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/ If you check out the videos page and then watch "The Last Battle", you can see how Doctor Who #9 ends his days. The Dalek episodes coming up look very cool. There is also a peak at the new Doctor (David Tennant), and you can find an interview here, video here. |

We've recently seen the entire collection of The Doctor ('What is his name???') over here and are eagerly awaiting the latest series of the newest doctor. Our national broadcaster (ABC but that's the Australian Broadcasting Corporation) decided to show the whole of their collection sequentially from Episode 1 from the beginning of last year, leading to the release of Eccleston's Doctor and emergence of Tennant. Sadly most of my friends are Who fans, inclduing the Trek fans and the Babylon 5 fans!!!! Apparently our ABC had some of the episodes thought lost forever by the BBC, hidden in a forgotten Melbourne vault. Hey Monster - and other fans! Seen this site? It's just fantastic!!!!! http://www.gallifreyone.com/epguide.php |

Now then, it's not sad that most of your friends are Who fans, I don't believe it, that it's sad that is. I heard about the lost episodes, I was thinking of seeing if they are available via torrent, along with the current season, that way I don't have to wait and wait to watch them. Joanne, I'll check that site out, it looks as if there is enough material to keep me busy for awhile, might have to parse it out over several visits though. |

It was such a smash hit for the BBC last year, so they've poured tons of money into the new season. Not only are there 13 new episodes in Series Two of Doctor Who, but there's also: - Doctor Who Confidential, a 13 part documentary series - MP3 commentaries posted every week - Totally Doctor Who, a kids' version of the documentary series - "TARDISodes", weekly 1-minute episode prequels - "TORCHWOOD" - a spinoff series featuring Captain Jack (can you work out the anagram?) Not to mention the return of Sarah Jane, K9, and the Cybermen. Fun stuff - we can't wait! Monster (and others), you might be interested in this bad boy: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000204SWE/104-2324202-9711130?v=glance&n=17228 2 I bought this player last year exclusively to keep up with the new Doctor Who. Basically, get a torrent of the .avi (usually within hours of broadcast), burn to CD-R, pop it in the player and enjoy in full digital glory. Quality is outstanding, best $60 I ever spent. I've got quite a few of the older stories in various formats, and would be happy to hook up fellow fans once we're settled (moving to Maplewood at the end of the month). |

When I catch up with partner's supplier this weekend (if I ever leave this house!!!! I've been trying to leave for the last 3 hours!!!), I'll log on and see if you two can work something out. (supplier is also a friend of LibraryLady's - what a small world!) On the other hand, perhaps Project's solution will work for you...? ...I gotta go! 4 hour drive ahead of us! |

Tonight in the US: Daleks. In the UK: The return of Sarah Jane Smith and that stupid dog. Bringing back SJS is inspired, that's all. Season Two preview: http://www.vsocial.com/video/?d=23576 |

The daleks almost did me in as a child, but of course i'm braver now..... And the cybermen???? NOTHING freaked me as much as them. We are glued to the Sci Fi channel! It's a shame there was only one series with this Doctor, but he has gone through so many prior transformations, I am sure the new one will work out great too, and if he doesn't then he will just "transform" more quickly....

Things I didn't like: (a) the one-hour format, which leaves no time for character development (unless you count an Existentialist Dalek) (b) comic-book dialogue (c) lots of shooting and ray guns, body count of about 200, crowding out other things that could have been done (see (a)) (d) "....someone you love...." WTF? (e) the Doctor is too young (f) my biggest peeve: f***ing commercials Things I did like: (a) production values (b) "what are you gonna do, sucker me to death?" and "the great metal killing machine, stopped by a flight of stairs"; some scriptwriter waited 20 years to write those lines.... (c) the camp is still there ("he just took down the whole western power grid", "he just downloaded the whole Internet") I miss the Daleks. On the bright side: Genesis of the Daleks on DVD in June. |

Without giving away plot details, the new season got off to a great start. Tennant has taken the role and run with it. He's clearly having a blast, and knowing that he's been a fan of the show since he was a kid, you can't help but be happy for him. He's so enthusiastic during interviews, as opposed to Eccleston, who (as much as I enjoyed his performance) seemed a bit reserved and perhaps exhausted by it all. The opening moments of the show seemed a little much in terms of reminding the audience of the Doctor/Rose relationship, but the actors have such great chemistry that it's still fun to watch. Bringing back some elements from last season's "The End of the World" helped in terms of bridging the gap between the two seasons. The lead actor's changed (again), but it's still the same show. Next week's episode looks amazing: Werewolves, martial-arts monks, and Queen Victoria duke it out in medieval Scotland...whoa. |

I grabbed the first UK (second season) episode last night, I watched the first couple of minutes, so far so good. I made myself stop, not sure if I want to start watching them before the season showing on SciFi is over. I guess I could just grab them each week, burn them to DVD and watch them at the end of the first season, if I can hold off. |

Oh boy... I'll give it a look out of curiosity, but I think that this one is strictly for the kiddies. http://news.independent.co.uk/media/article359785.ece Doctor Who's K-9 sidekick is dragged into 21st century in computer-designed cartoon In its original 1970s role as Doctor Who's state-of-the-art sidekick, K-9 once proved so unreliable that the BBC props department was forced to drag it in front of the camera with a length of string. Such technical hitches are unlikely to hinder the robotic dog in its latest incarnation. It was announced yesterday that K-9 is the latest retro television character to make a comeback. The cyber-hound with a nose-mounted laser is to star in a cartoon to capitalise on the popularity of the BBC's revived Doctor Who, now in its second series after a 16-year hiatus. The original K-9, which first appeared alongside Tom Baker in 1977, will return to screens next weekend in a cameo role when it is discovered rusting in a cupboard by the current Doctor Who, David Tennant, in an episode entitled "School Reunion". The cartoon series, which has been commissioned for a Dutch-based cable channel owned by Disney, will be co-written by Bob Baker, one of the creators of the original K-9 and a scriptwriter on Wallace and Gromit.
