It seems as though iTunes is the superior online music store for buying single songs/albums, and even videos! Let me first say, I don't have an iPod and don't have much desire to get one. However, I have digitized all of my music (for other applications) in order to play throughout the home. I have bought some music from iTunes and it comes in such a crazy format (AA4 or something). Changing it to MP3 was difficult because I needed a program to strip of the protection, then convert to MP3.

Is it still this way?

I have been using musicmatch and MSN to get songs lately. When you purchase the song there, it too in not in MP3 format. The way I get around this is to burn the song to a CD, then rip it from the CD back to PC into MP3 format. My guess is that this is not a lossless transaction! In addition, msn and muscimatch do not have the selection of songs and albums that are available on iTunes.

Was wondering if any of you were using other stores (and could comment on iTunes) out there and what your experiences are. Thanks!

I've used iTunes for a few random purchases (their "iTunes Originals" acoustic sessions are generally pretty good). Files are still sold in the secured format, but you can use the burn-to-CD-then-rip workaround. Personally, I don't notice a dramatic loss in quality, but a more sophisticated listener might.

Haven't tried the other online stores for music singles - iTunes works for me as a one-stop shop.
