I think the nanny was on hand when her little one got injured. Not sure if she was present for that incident. |

While the no baby in carseat is inexcusable, I can easily relate to a baby launching itself out of a high chair. I have an 11 month old and his speed and ability to endanger himself during the 30 seconds I take to move the high chair tray from table to sink is incredible. Plus, at that age, they are capable of suddenly doing something that they were completely unable to do the previous day. I know very few parents who haven't had the fear that if something accidental happens and their kid ends up in the hospital for things like falls or stitches, that child services will be sicced on them. |

My mother was interrogated by family services back home when I was 8 for several hours. All because I was a moron during reading class. I was reading during class and had my ankles wrapped around the chair legs. A really mean girl in my class kicked the chair out from under me and the chair wobbled with my ankles wrapped around the legs. My ankle immediately started hurting. The teacher brushed me off (it was reading class and I didn't really fall far. Nothing looked hurt). Several hours later, I went to the nurse. She basically told me it was nothing and sent me back to class. When I got home, I complained to my mother, but she figured it was nothing (I got hurt easily, especially since I did gymnastics and danced. Twisted ankles were my MO... and besides, it's reading class!) Three days later and I'm in a ton of pain. Mom finally takes me to the ER and it turns out I fractured both the growth plate and one of the bones in my ankle. No wonder it hurt. The ER staff thought I was covering for my Mom (c'mon, who breaks their ankle in reading class without falling off a chair at the very least!) and separated us. Child services and social workers interrogated both of us for a couple of hours. They were just doing their jobs, but c'mon. So yes, child services does get called in when there's no foul play. I hope this story amused a few of you at the very least, or illustrated that kids get hurt in the most ridiculous ways and child services is always right there when there's no foul. |
