I have known about this film for a long time and now it's ready to shine on April 28th!

I am in a flood of tears watching the trailer and here is the link:

I hope you all go and support this project. I believe Starbucks is doing a marketing campaign for this movie in their stores.

Peace.

Saw a trailer for it a couple of weeks ago. My daughter and I cannot wait to see it.

Yes, it's being heavily promoted at Starbucks. Starbucks is involved in the movie's production.

..and do I mention that Lawrence Fishburne is nothing short of phenomenal! That's an ACTOR who gives 100% to his craft - consistently!

My nephews, two friend's daughters and I can't wait for this movie to come out! I told them it was based on a true story. (it is, isn't it?) You can tell from the trailers it's going to be one of those movies you'll want to get on DVD when it comes out to watch again.

Saw it today in Union with the family (only showing in selected theaters )....it was AWESOME! I hope it does well and people ACTUALLY go see and not wait for DVD release. WE NEED MORE FILMS LIKE THIS! Triumphant!...and Lawrence Fishburne and Angela Basset are simply brilliant actors! The young lady who played Akeelah was wonderful and I hope she stays around for more performances. I loved every single minute!!!! BRAVO!!!...and yes, I cried a river of tears!

I'll go see this movie although I have to admit, I do miss Larry Fishburne. He rocked as "Cowboy Curtis".

D
Too bad you didn't know it was in Mountainside and East Hanover. Do you know if it was based on a true story?

I forgot about E. Hanover, and not traveling to Mountainside. Union was okay and closer. This was not based on a true story, but there are some real-life "parallels" that have happened. I read that Lawrence Fishburne had the script for 5 years waiting for someone to produce it. This movie has inspired me to look into stories about these spelling bees and students who participate in them.

Also, in the film there are some inspirational quotes spoken from the author, Marianne Williamson.

There was a good documentary about spelling bees a couple of years ago that is out on DVD. I want to say it's called Spellbound, but I'm not completely sure.

...and I have just discovered that I have made a big SPELLING error. The name of the movie is Akeelah not Akeela.

Took the Kibbeboys to see it over the weekend -- they LOVED IT! Mr. Kibbegirl and I dug this movie so much -- it's really something special. The Kibbeboy's were clapping and cheering for Akeelah like they knew her! It's a beautiful piece of work for sure.

I just purchased the soundtrack from Starbucks. That "old school" soul music I grew up on (Staple Singers, Jackson 5, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes).....timeless, and my youngs boys love it too!
"Oh,
A B C ,
It's easy as 1 2 3 ,
as simple as do re mi,
A B C,
1 2 3
baby you and me girl
A B C it's easy,
it's like counting up to 3
singing simple melodies
that's how easy love can be"...
