You're invited to a special screening of Long Way From Home at the Ethical Culture Society, 516 Prospect Street, Maplewood on Thursday, May 18th at 7:30. A discussion with the award-winning filmmaker, Kavery Kaul, will follow. The film is about three New York City students -- from an African American family, a Cambodian family, and an Egyptian family -- as they enter 9th grade at two of Manhattan's top private schools, and tackle the question, "How do we rethink belonging to include differences, and embrace diversity as a strength? Kavery Kaul, born in Calcutta and raised in New Jersey, is herself a graduate of Rutgers Prep. Very gently, she lets the girls and the audience define their own answers. Refreshments will be served. Hope to see you there. |

Just getting it to the top. Kavery is a very intelligent and talented documentary filmmaker. One of her previous films was, One Hand Clapping, which won much acclaim. Hope some of you can make it. |
