Viggo - yes! Dego - Liam just doesn't do it for me - too Merchant/Ivory + period piece for me. I liked Dave's suggestion of the OLD Mickey Rourke (old meaning young) his one bit in "Body Heat" was one of the sexiest, most powerful and magnetic scenes ever. He looks like a flying monkey today - such a waste. |

Jeremy Irons... I also agree the Viggo could have been good.

Glad to hear some others were also thinking Liam Neeson. However, I think both the Viggo and Ralph Fiennes ideas are right on as well. Liev Schreiber is maybe too young, but interesting idea. |

I was thinking Aaron Eckhart for the part while I read the book. But after seeing Brett's entry, I may have to change my mind to Ed Smalley |

Geri- actually it's Ed Grimley, star of the SCTV Classic film "The Nutty Lab Assitant", in which he drinks a secret formula that turns him inton John Mellencamp. I'm sure he has the range to branch out... |

A near-unknown might have been good, to take the focus off of the whole star-power thing. There's a long history, BTW, of potboiler books becoming outstanding pieces of drama. The Godfather comes to mind. I re-read it a year or so again and it was terrible. Some of the great Italian operas were also based on trashy fiction, but putting them on stage raised them up to a higher plane. This isn't to say this is a good movie (I haven't seen it), but don't discount it just because the book wasn't a literary masterpiece. |

mlj, I kind of like that. Not too much of a pretty boy, but decent looking. He's not exactly what I was thinking of, but he's the right age and hair color. |

Yeah, kind of, but what if it was a cross between him & Jeff Bridges? I just read Stephen Whitty's review in the SL Ticket and he made a comment about Tom HAnks being "oddly doughy and ill-groomed." |

I always pictured Dennis Quaid, but can also see Viggo. The choice of Tom Hanks is as bad as if it had been Tom Cruise. |

From IMDB, you guys are good. Director Ron Howard's first ideal choice for the part of Robert Langdon was Bill Paxton but Paxton wasn't able to fit the film into his schedule. Howard then began to look into many other actors that included Russell Crowe, Ralph Fiennes, Hugh Jackman, George Clooney and Tom Hanks. Crowe was the running favorite until, ultimately, Howard and producer Brian Grazer decided on Tom Hanks. |

Bill Paxton? Really??? That's hilarious. BP is practically my favorite actor right now. I don't know why, but I have developed a huge crush on him based on his role in "Big Love." I think it's also because he looks a LOT like Mr Zoesky1, to the point where strangers have remarked on the similarity. But I think I also like his character in "Big Love," even if he does have three wives. Not to drift this thread, but is anyone else getting into this show? I like it more and more. |

oops. sorry. didn't know it was posted before. My bad for not reading the whole thread. I can post it a few more times if you like, though, and even some more trivia about who the women were that they auditioned. And about the restrictions about shooting inside the Louvre. And a bunch of other stuff you can find out on your own. My bad. |

Thanks for the serial processing. Back on topic, what does the term "Abe Vigoda" always make me laugh? I used to be the same way with "Vic Tayback" but no more. |
