The NJ Renaissance Kingdom is back this June at Tulip Springs in South Mountain Reservation, but we are taking time off from the legend of King Arthur to bring you -- The Pirates of Tortuga! Watch as an unlikely romantic couple challenge the corrupt governor of Tortuga Island. Go on a treasure hunt, yourself! Listen to the singing, and join in the dancing at the Maypole! And, between shopping at our merchants, see the many other shows, including Jason and the Ahrrrrgonauts, Peter Pan, and Hearts and Pirates!

Details, as usual, at http://www.NJKingdom.com.

Here be fun, thinks I!
If only there was a time machine. Ah to be a pirate. That ranks right up there with locomotive engineer, tug boat captain and soldier of fortune!
Yarrrr!

Well, official opening day is tomorrow (weather permitting). A schedule of the day has been prepared at http://www.NJKingdom.com, and there is a short preview video.

OK, so the weather didn't permit.

We'll try again tomorrow!

Because of the generally icky weather, most of the people who came last weekend were our Fans-with-a-capital-F, who mostly come from around Somerset, and don't know that this board exists.

There is plenty of information at our website, http://www.NJKingdom.com, including a detailed schedule, a brief introduction to the story that runs through the day, descriptions of the various shows, a list of our merchants, and ticket prices (once you're in, every show is free except the Enchanted Forest, which is $2 extra to keep the crowds down). And, this year, children 10 and under get free admission to the faire (two free children per adult).

Now, if you asking, "Is it any good?", I think so, but I'm a member of the cast. Still, for whatever it's worth, my wife and I were fans before we joined, and we're not the only ones who can say that. This year my wife wrote an original comedy, Hearts and Pirates, that I think is very good indeed.

I should make a note that, this year, the story starts bang at eleven (weather, etc., permitting), so if you want to follow it, you should arrive early. Some of us will be waiting there by 10:30 to do improv, tell chicken jokes, poke fun at your weird 21st-century clothing, and generally keep you occupied until the gates open.

Thanks. I think we may go on Sunday. I just don't know how long my 7 year old will stay interested. I do think he'd be very into it.

John,
The 2-day pass: is that $22 per adult, or per family?
Also, do you think a 2 and 3/4 year old would enjoy it?
THanks,
Mel

The pass is $22 per adult for two days, and each adult can bring two children ten or under for free.

There's no way to tell with very young children. A child that young is likely to be enchanted, at least at first, simply by the strangeness of it all, but might, on the other hand, be frightened. If your child is generally happy at amusement parks, etc., then it'll probably be OK. If, on the other hand, nervousness and shyness are the order of the day....

In the end, you know better than I.
