He passed away at age 59. I saw him in concert once. Blew the roof off the place.

Wow, rest in peace Billy.

I can't tell you how many times my sister and I played our 45 of his "Outer Space" - while we practiced doing "The Penguin". His music brings back a lot of good memories of my youth.

And Hilton Ruiz (jazz pianist) just died. Also in his 50s.

How sad. I will always remember him in Concert for Bangladesh - he stole the show. And the Concert for George.

Deidra,
I can remember doing the penguin to Billy too. Those were the good days. Doing the penguin and trying to keep your knee socks up..no one looked cool doing the penguin with your socks sagging.

I saw Billy perform at the Beatlefest in April '04. He did a medley of hits despite the fact that he was rail thin and obviously very sick. Yet he was still able to put on one great show that night.
