!st was an extended 45 of Burl Ives singing childrens songs. 1st that I really wanted was Meet the Beatles (technically it was my older sister's, but I swiped it). 1st bought with my own money-Are You Experienced, Jimi Hendrix Experience. Took the Q44A bus to May's Dept. Store in Queens and forked overr $2.99, plus tax. Never looked back. |

first 45's I purchased...at Two Guys..."I Think I Love You"..Partridge Family; "Oh Happy Day"...Edwin Hawkins Singers; "My Sweet Lord/Isnt It A Pity"...George Harrison; and "Indiana Wants Me" (I'll leave the artist for any trivia buff to answer). I had already owned (and still own) hundreds of 45s since my grandfather knew a bar owner and they would give me all the 45s when they would change over the jukebox. first 45 I can remember being gifted to me along with kiddie records..."Puff the Magic Dragon"...beat the crap out of that one on the Close N' Play. first album purchases...Columbia House deal..."Blow By Blow"...Jeff Beck; "Bridge of Sighs"...Robin Trower; "M.U. -- The Best of Jethro Tull"; "Frampton Comes Alive"..Peter Frampton; "Alive"...Kiss; "Endless Summer"...Beach Boys. first album I can remember in the house...besides the assortment of Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Jimmy Roselli and Johnny Mathis...the soundtrack to "The Sound of Music"...I still have a crush on Julie to this day. When they sang, "how do you solve a problem like Maria?", I never understood what the problem was. I also briefly had a four-track player...a very short-lived fad, my recollection is that they were like EPs...and my first 4-track cassettes were "Meet the Beatles" and "Glenn Campbell Christmas". |

I was eight when somebody bought me "The Magic Toyshop", a 78 narrated by Danny Kaye to the music of "La Boutique Fantasque" (Rossini-Respighi), played by the Royal Opera House Orchestra, Covent Garden. I still play it. -s. |

Fill Your Head with Jazz, a Columbia two-fer I paid $5 for at Penny's. Each track was a revelation. I framed it. My kids broke it. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'll spank them both tonight, vigorously. I wouldn't be Ligeti without this precious album. |

My very first record(s)was a compilation of "hits" from the late 60s early 70s from K-Tel. I think it was a four record set and included some memorable tracks such as: Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves Go away Little Girl and others. I think the first record I ever purchased for myself was either: Fleetwood Mac - Rumors Kansas - Point of No Return or Meatloaf - Bat out of Hell |

I recall arguing with my older brothers - I thought that the Monkees were much better than the Beatles. That must have been a few years before I became sullen - my first album was Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits volume one. |
