Robert Altman must just say hey i'm doing a movie want to be in it. just a day in the life of these people, but man they are a boring group.

Yeah, can't really say i'd recommend it, but everyone acted their buts off.

To each their own--I liked it, but then again, I like A Prairie Home Companion on the radio. The story line was contrived. but it was like a throwback to the Hollywood musicals of the 40's where the plot was a thin excuse to showcase some stars, sing some songs, tell some jokes, and have a variety show on the screen.

I liked it a lot. Meryl Street was terrific, and despite the fact that the "plot" was contrived, it really wasn't about a story anyway, just a slice of life. There were some great bits in it, and a lot of beautiful camera work.

Yes, the camera work was astonishing. I do not always like Altman's films, but this one felt like he was in total control while being loose and relaxed. It was like some of Kurasawa's lighter films or Woody Allen when he is actually in good form (Hannah and Her Sisters) in that respect--a large ensemble cast, lots of overlapping story lines, yet the director is firmly yet gently in charge of every camera angle, every nuance in lighting.

I thought that the movie was bad, bad, Leroy Brown bad.

I wanted to leave halfway thru but Mrs. T didn't. She kinda liked it.

It is poorly written (in particular) and poorly directed and poorly acted. Except for Meryl Streep who had a stoopid role but was very good at it.

It was dumb as hell and had none of the charm and wit that the radio program has. A ghost? What purpose did THAT serve?

All the songs were made up for the movie and they were poor to mediocre at best. No REAL musical talent was in evidence, either. They always have marvelous musical guests on the show, real special talent. None here. None.

And Lindsey Lohan's character was pointless and totally uneccessary.

Why have Streep (who I adore, by the way) and Tomlin and Reilly and Harrelson when they could have had real singers and performers?

Dumb dumb dumb. Keillor wrote it, I think. Not a screenwriter.

The last scene really got me. Masden was great. That is all.

I love the radio show, I love Garrison, so I enjoyed the movie. I used to be a singer (someday again), I used to perform with dear friends (someday again), so, for me, PHK was like being on stage again, and I loved it. As with any Altman film, one needs to just go in to the movie and let it "happen" in order to appreciate and enjoy it.

I think if one is more used to the standard movie arc (setup, problem, resolution), then one would be confused. My tween daughter was.

I liked it, but if I wasnt a fan of the show, I wouldnt have. And I understand some of the stuff they tried to do, but it fell short. Would have been a better renter. But, Meryl Streep continues to show how remarkable she is in her range. Lindsay Lohan was outclassed as an actor with the ensemble in this movie, and that includes Keillor's great regular ensemble who made a better transition to film than she showed. Woody Harrelson and John C. Reilly were really good, then again, John C. Reilly is one of the more underrated actors out there I think. And Virginia Madsen is uniquely beautiful.
