I believe you can fill out what you need to fill out when you bring your entry to Town Hall. Just make sure you bring it to Town Hall between 9:00 am and 9:30 am. Any later and they probably won't accept it. Please pass on the parade and race info to all you know who have kids. Unfortunately the fliers weren't distributed to the elementary and middle schools this year but you can pick them up at the local library and all of the vendors who are selling tickets. The parade is quite short and ends right at the field where the races begin. That gives all enough time to do both and for folks to get their baking contest entries in by the right time as well. Happy Fourth to All! (and happy four day weekend for some of us) |

doctoralissa: There is no pre-registration for the baking contest. It would help if you bring your entry to town hall before 9:30AM (otherwise the judging may already have started) and if you bring two copies of your recipe with contact information including name of baker(s), age (if child) or adult (if adult), and contact number where you can be reached (needed if you use a dish you want back or if you win a ribbon and are not there to collect it at 11:30 AM). Expect that your entry will be eaten. Please say hello when you bring your entry. I will be one of the volunteers helping to get everything set up. |

Tell Bernie THANKS and I will make sure the Vets stay safe from the kids - at least I will try my hardest. Yes, if you'd like to help out giving out some additional flags, etc. to the kids and helping to organize that would be great. I am a little short-handed this year and would love the extra help. See you on the fourth! Wendy |

This is our first 4th of July in town and we would like to partake of the activities - we even have people coming to join us. We went to Pen & Jenn's to buy badges and they didn't know anything about having them for sale - said they were not a vendor. No one came to our door selling badges, either. Is it possible to buy badges on the 4th? |

Actually, they are tags rather than badges. And they will be for sale down in the park during the festivities - there will be a table set up near the skate house. (That is the location of the evening event entrance, per the second post in this thread.) |

Sac speaks correctly, as usual. babymakes3 you can also purchase your tickets at Maplewood Stationers before the 4th and at other vendors listed above. I'm not sure why Penn and Jen didn't have tickets and didn't know anything about it. Sometimes some things fall through the cracks. Looking forward to seeing you on the 4th. I hope if you have toddlers and/or elementary aged kids you'll arise early on our nation's birthday and take part in the opening 4th activities including the push, pedal, pull parade. Please feel free to decorate your stroller, bike, etc. and come to Ricalton Square where a few of us will be organizing the cutest, shortest parade I've ever seen as well as providing the parade participants with a few give-aways that always bring smiles to our littlest patriots. Happy 4th! Wendy |

Ricalton Square is on Maplewood Avenue at the northern end of the commercial strip refered to locally as Maplewood Village. Please post here if you need further directions.

Pan and Jen's has tags as of yesterday - I forgot to deliver them last week - they're fully stocked now. Also Abode, the village wine store, Richard Roberts, the stationary store, rec department and Net Nomads all have tags for sale. Babymakes3 - glad you're staying in town for the 4th, it's really a sweet old-fashioned celebration, take lots of pictures!

Ed, tickets are full price regardless of when and where they are purchased. Always have been. Perhaps you are confusing July 4th with First Night. Joan it wasn't your fault for the misinformation - the slides weren't going to happen this year. The water slides were a last minute addition for this year and they are shorter this year so there is less of a chance of anyone injuring themselves. The eating contest was not held since the organization who usually runs it was not able to do so this year. Unfortunately that info was only found out after the tickets, fliers, etc. were already printed up. (Girl Scouts - perhaps this is something you want to consider doing for next year.) I want to thank all of the hard-working members of the July 4th committee for the wonderful job they did this year. Each and every member, each and every volunteer for each and every event, are all dedicated and caring individuals who do their parts to make this day a memorable one for young and old alike. It's a pleasure to be a small part of this wonderful small-town event. Since I just ran the parade in the morning, I want to single out for thanks, my friend Annette and two of her children, Joan, Bernie Crystal, Art Gartenlaub and the other Vets, Fred Profeta and Kathy Leventhal, the wonderful guys of the MPD including my favorite sergeant (whose name I dare not try to spell), the Maplewood Rescue Squad, and most importantly, the parade participants. You guys all looked like you were professional parade marchers and I was so impressed with the way the bicycle riders actually used their brakes and kept the Vets safe and sound as they lead the parade. Happy July 4th to all! Wendy Lauter |

Just spoke to someone on the committee. Radar is showing no more thunderstorms so hopefully the fireworks will go on tonight as scheduled. Any decision wouldn't be made till after 6:00 in any event. |

The circus folks were selling popcorn, cotton candy & glow in the dark stuff on the hill by the train station last night. Has the Committee ever considered walking around with a bucket asking for donations? We don't attend the circus or daytime activities anymore and $40 for the fireworks is more than I'm willing to pay, but I would be willing to contribute a few dollars towards the cost of the day. (I know I could just buy one ticket and not use it, but I never got around to that this year). |

almost forgot this... We arrived after 9pm and as we were on the walkway heading down to hill I smelled pot. I was with my kids and not interested in making a scene, but c'mon this is a family gathering. I saw more toddlers than school-age kids in the area. |

lizzyr: The 4th of July Committee was taking donations this year. I saw a collection jar in the village on Saturday morning. There was likely one at the field house yesterday as well though I didn't check. Even though the festivities are over for this year, I am sure the 4th of July Committee would welcome donations towards supporting next year's activities since they have a number of up front expenses that need to be paid for before tags go on sale for next year. |
