I have just become a "Big Sister" to an 11 year old girl through Newark's Big Brothers/Big Sisters. I am really excited about being a mentor but I would LOVE ideas about fun things to do with an 11 year old girl. She like physical activities. Especially gymnastics. I am open to hearing suggestions of things that might be fun for her age group. I'm a cool chick but a little clueless when it comes to this kind of thing. It surely will be great for both of us but I am open to suggestions from those who know pre-teens! Thanks so much in advance!

They all see to love that Funplex place on Rte 10. Rock climbing thing and go-carts especially. Also maybe miniature golf and batting cages on Springfield.

I have an 11 year old so I guess I'll offer my 2 cents - although I guess it depends on the 11 year old...

My daughter loves: Pen & Jen's Tea Bar, Geralyn's art studio (Geralyn has some sort of special during the summer where you can go there for an hour or two for a special "project of the day" - you don't have to be a regular), Painting the plates (I [generally] only let my daughter make a 4" tile because otherwise I'd have a 100 dog statues and because some of the other stuff can get quite pricey. The tiles work out good and I've tiled around my fireplace with some of them. You can also mount ribbon to them and hang them on the wall.), The Library has a good teen (actually pre-teen) program this year with groovy contests and bean bags to sit and read on, they also have several activities to sign up for - one of which my daughter went to and it was far better than either of us ever expected, a trip to the Jersey Animal Colition Shelter to pet the animals waiting for adoption, the community pool if you're a member, and if you know anyone with a trampoline, they seem to love that, especially if she's into gymnastics.

I hope this helps and I hope you have a great time with her!

I don't know Pen & Jen's Tea Bar or Geralyn's Art Studio. Can you give me more info on those two. Thanks so much. I like the JAC idea!
