My 18 year old niece is visiting and would like to meet some other college age friends. She doesn't drive. Are there any local hot spots? I work during the day and hang out with the toddler set outside of work, so I am lost.

Thanks for suggestions.

Try the dancing goat or around the train station in SO. A lot of SHU kids head to the city too. Not much to do around here though ;)

Well, I know this sounds weird but the concession stands at the Maplewood and South Orange Pools are staffed with mostly college kids and some high school students. They also interact with the lifeguard staffs at the pools and there seems to be quite a social scene during the summer.

If she's the brave type, she could go to the Maplewood concession and ask for John, Charles, Danielle or Molly and tell any of them that Helen sent her. Or at the South Orange Pool ask for Billy or Alex (Alex is a girl) and say the same.

If she likes animals, try the NJ Animal Colition off Walton Rd. I believe they have an older teen volunteer staff there.

Also, for the next couple of weeks there's some amazing art classes going on at Gerylyn's Art. If she's the artsy type it's higher level stuff they're making (fused glass) and she'd get to sit there for a period of time and chat, that's if she's the chatty type.

Hope this helps!
