Took my son to see the Flaming Lips last night at the Allentown County Fair and was blown away by their performance. I like their records but live they are an audio and visual delight. They are playing in New York on Sept. 24th, if they're not sold out I would suggest you go, you've never seen or heard anything like them. Their performance was like watching one of the best music concerts and performing arts pieces all in one. Very creative guys.

They were the headliners with 3 other bands, all were enjoyable. They were:

Magic Numbers-Really good pop band from the UK. Great songs and nice harmonies.

Sonic Youth-never cared for these critics darlings but I was impressed live. The songs come alive on stage and their experiments with feedback were actually enjoyable.

Ween-Wow, what a whacked out bunch of guys. Kind of like a modern day Mother's. Great funny tunes, incredible players.

Anyone else a fan of the Flaming Lips or these others bands ?.

I like the Ween. They are fun to see live. I heard they did a wings cover last night (let me roll it)

Also Sonic Youth - though the last cd I got from then was Goo.

I know nothing of the flaming lips or magic numbers.

A friend just hipped me to the new Flaming Lips album, At War with the Mystics. Only heard it once, but I like what I've heard. The only other album I am familiar with is Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. It's excellent.

Uke - I have heard their live performances are amazing. I was told by the firend who turned me on to the new albm to go check out some live clips on YouTube.

haven't had a chance, but intend to do so....

Uke - my boyfriend and I were there as well. We saw Sonic Youth and Ween (who we actually made the trip for). We didn't stay in the concert area for Flaming Lips as neither of us are big fans, but you could hear and see most of the show from around the fair and from the upper deck of the bar area.

The fair itself was quite an experience... we went out there Wednesday night and left this morning. I'm interested to see who they get for next year because it's definitely a trip we'd both make again.

Ween did do an excellent cover of Let me Roll It.

I went there(and my son) for Flaming Lips. After witnessing Weens set, I thought the Flaming Lips would be a let down, how wrong I was. Ween were fantatstic but in my opinion, the Lips were otherworldly.

I saw the Flaming lips at Irving Plaza, and at the time I didn't know of them. THey were great. But then I got a cd and fell out of love. They had lots of mini Christmas tree lights onstage-- I mean TONS, like one of those wacky 6th street Indian places in NYC -- and the lights were pretty mesmerizing, as they went to the rythms of the music.

What's the deal with the Allentown county fair? Those are pretty big headliners for a county fair.

They had some pretty hip promoters. I also heard Ween were local guys so they may have pulled this together. Very different but James Taylor's the main act there tonight.

I saw the Flaming Lips on Austin City Limits a couple of years ago and came away wondering why I had missed out on them so long. They were terrific.

And just yesterday I just got a great demo version of Let Me Roll It from 1973.

I am the world's hugest WEEN fan, FYI the drummer Claude Coleman went to Columbia HS. They are the best musical act in our time. WEEN 'MANG!!!!!

I was soooo.... bummed I missed the show at Allentown Fairgrounds. A bunch of my buds went up though and said it was a killer set.

If you haven't heard the last three Flaming Lips CDs, you're missing something. What's more is that one can listen to "Racing for the Prize" and "Yoshimi Battles the Giant Pink Robots" in the car WITH CHILDREN! Now that's a huge bonus.
