I congratulate the CHS fencing squad on this true coup d'etat. I've heard that this film is fabulous, and the fact that Keeth Smart will be present is a well-deserved tribute to the team's talent. They're not showing this film just anywhere. Congratulations! |

Fellow SOMS, Only one day more until you all get the opportunity to see a truly interesting, uplifting film, "Choice of Weapons." at the CHS auditorium tomorrow night, Friday, November 21, at 7:30pm. In order to pique your interest, allow me to quote from the Belle and Blade catalogue where "Choice of Weapons" follows "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." pg.16 "Choice of Weapons" (2002) 4 stars!!!! "A terrific documentary about the creation of an Olympic fencing athlete. The sacrifices made and the rewards attained in the pursuit of a dream are seen in this behind the scenes peek at the lives of young athletes on a tough road. This film also tells the story of Peter Westbrook and his non-profit program for inner city youths. Peter is a 6 TIME! Olympian, Olympic Bronze Medalist, and was the Olympic Team Flag Bearer in the 1992 Olympic Games." As an added bonus members of the 2000 USA Olympic Fencing Team (they are the stars of the movie,) and the creator of this wonderful piece of cinema verite', Chris Darymple, will be present to add their personal touch to the evening. All of the proceeds go for a good cause; support for the NJ mens and womens defending state champion Columbia High School fencing teams. |

Many, many thanks to Nan, J. Crohn and all of the other 250+ people who attended the Columbia HS fencing teams' showing of " Choice of Weapons" last nite. I hope all of you enjoyed the movie and the discussion afterward as much as I did and I further hope to see some of you again in the coming months at one or more Columbia H.S. fencing events. Thank you, |
