Especially for South Orangians--there's a new Chinese take out place in West Orange that's better than any other place we've tried in the area-- Peking House on South Valley Rd (in the CVS shopping plaza). They deliver really fast. The dishes are fresh. The snow peas snap! Try it. 973-731-8792 or 731-8908 It's less than a mile from the SO/WO border We are never again ordering from Hunan Gardens or Bills . . .

Have you tried Ling Ling in Millburn? They also deliver and the food is great.. a bit pricier then the local shops, but well worth it. |

ElizaBeth, Have tio agree with your take on Peking House. The food is fast, fresh and inexpensive. I LOVE their Singapore Chow Mei Fon, just the right amount of spiciness and soooo good. Oh, and the portions are great, larger than most I've taken out. NCJ aka LibraryLady On a coffee break..or something like it. |

ElizaBeth,I think it is our SOL/MOL duty to join together and have takeout from Peking House, try every item on the menu and report back. What do ya think? NCJ aka LibraryLady On a coffee break..or something like it. |

Singapore Mei Fun is my favorite - so far the only place that I've find around here that does a decent job is JJ's but I'd be thrilled to find a place that delivers. I'm going to try Peking House tomorrow. |

We've tried all the local Chinese in the area since moving her this summer. So far, the only one that is even remotely good is Ling Ling. It's just amazing how bad the Chinese food is in all the suburbs. We moved from the upper east side, and while we didn't get down to Chinatown all that much, we had a decent place (Nancy Lee's Pig Heaven) right around the corner. Granted, there are some good food choices here, but I really miss good Chinese (not to mention even half-way decent Japanese). I like NCJanow's idea. I'll give Peking House a try this week and report back. I'll be looking for fried rice that isn't brown from too much soy sauce, string beans that snap, and flavor from the food, not the overuse of any kind of sauce.

Peking house has been open for more than a year now - so it isn't that new. They were my favorite place for a while, but I've switched back to ordering takeout from Hunan Garden which is at 4 Village Plaza right in SO village. Good food, generous portions. I go back and forth between the two places, so right now I am on the Hunan Garden kick - maybe next month I'll be ordering from Peking House again...

Does Peking House have tables to eat in, as well? We've always been partial to Hunan Spring in Springfield. The decor is pretty ancient 1970's style, but the food is rather tasty & good quality. Mr. Chu on Route 10 is another pretty good choice. |

The best Chinese food in the area, in my opinion, is China Gourmet on Eagle Rock Avenue, just west of Prospect Avenue in West Orange. Truly gourmet food, lovely atmosphere, excellent service, friendly staff, child friendly, and absolutely spotless. They also have an excellent bar and jazz on some nights. |

Peking House: There are a couple of tables to wait at and if you wanted you could eat there, but it is really just take out. No waitress service, bright flourescent lights, white plastic tables, etc. NCJ aka LibraryLady On a coffee break..or something like it. |

I've found the closer you get to East Hanover the better the Chinese food gets. Probably because more Chinese live there. Local take out I usually get from Hunan Garden here in SO. We really need a good authentic Sichuan restaurant locally, though. |

No one here will mention Bill and Harry? It's on Maplewood Ave in Maplewood. I guess I just did. I've been quite happy with the food there. Maybe it's because I moved from Edison, where the Chinese take-out is abominable. And it's odd, because Edison has a gigantic fraction of Chinese people living there. Tom Reingold There is nothing

What's good at Hunan Garden? I am looking for something somewhat healthy. Do they have a good chicken with garlic sauce? I like snap peas and water chestnuts. i am so hungry. |

These are not right in town, but I have found good Chinese from Chef Wong in Livingston. It's in a strip mall across from the Livingston CVS. I am not sure if they deliver to SO/Mplwd. Also, Ocean King in Livingston had great dim sum but I heard they are closed now. I am hoping it is just while that row of shops is being renovated? Finally, Cathy 22 on Route 22 West in Springfield (or maybe it's Union) has excellent Chinese,IMO. They had all sorts of reviews and write ups posted inside and the atmosphere looked quite nice although I got take-out. |
