OK so I know it is overdone and expensive and crowded to go out on NYE. But I have NEVER been out (outside of a friend's house) on NYE. So this year Mom will be in town to babysit and I want to go to a romantic dinner with DH. Needs to be close by (not NYC) and I'd rather not pay an arm and a leg. Any ideas?

How about the Ironbound district in Newark? Great restaurants if you like Spanish/Portuguese. Probably some good holiday offerings too.We have loved Fornos and Iberias.

my neighbors have gone to Basilco in Millburn the past two NYEs and said it was very nice. How about Jocelyns -- we love Jocelyn's but that may be a little small and tame.

Scalini Fedeli costs an arm and a leg on a regular day, I can't even imagine what a New Years' Eve would cost there!

Hey , amandacat , as the old beer commercial says " You only go around once " . Besides ,that Cie Anna place would cost about 2/3 of what Scalini Fedeli cost , also getting a resevation @ this late date , isn't going to happen.

pub at the black horse inn - in mendham. Ok, I know it is not in S. Orange, but food is good, they have music, etc and is really nice. Will cost just an arm, you get to keep your leg.
