Alexander Kariotis

ALEXANDER KARIOTIS
Exposed to rock n roll at a young age, Alexander was only 9 when he lost both his eyebrows setting off homemade pyrotechnics for his big brother’s band. It was love at first...light? He quickly formed his first rock band, The Nodes, and frequently opened for Gambler (EMI America), his brother’s rock band in Chicago. After hearing Lucianno Pavarotti sing at Ravinia, Alex was so inspired that he auditioned and won a scholarship to study opera at the Mannes Conservatory of Music in New York City. He kept his hand in pop music by flying back and forth to LA to sing back-up at the Roxy and record with his brother at the famous Warner Bros. Studios In L.A. and Sun Studios in Memphis.

After graduating form Mannes, he moved to LA where he received a full scholarship from UCLA to continue his studies in opera.

While there he also played guitar for a few gigs with the Tokens, (The Lion Sleeps Tonight) and wrote songs with his brother for Wrestle Rock!

CLYDE BULLARD: (bass) As well as being the producer at the historic Flushing Town Hall, Clyde has performed all over the world with Eddie Murphy, Bill Withers, the Broadway company of “Hair’ and The Boys Choir of Harlem. He has been signed to Capitol Records and has also performed on Saturday Night Live.

JERRY CORDASCO: (drums) A drummer and percussionist with extensive recording and touring experience and one of the founding members of The Stanky Brown Group on the Sire label. He also recorded two singles, which were released on the Arista label. The Stanky Brown Group was the first band to play Giant Stadium in NJ, opening the very first concert held there with the Beach Boys, Steve Miller and Pablo Cruise. Jerry also toured and recorded a live album with Jonathan Edwards (Sunshine Go Away Today). He played drums for Melissa Manchester, Chuck Berry and the Blues Brothers (John Belushi and Dan Akroyd).

PETER SECKEL: (guitar) A highly accomplished guitar player, Peter has studied with John Scofield, Pat Martino and Vic Juris. Besides being an active performer (Radio City) and studio musician, Peter has written for TV, including commercials for American Express, Wendy’s and CVS. Peter has also been a writer/transcriber for “Guitar for the Practicng Musician Magazine.”

MITCH SAMU: (musical director/keyboards) Credits include: “SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER”, “LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS”, LION KING”, “THE VELMA VILMA RUBY SHOW”, "ADRIFT IN MACAO". He is the composer and playwright of the musicals “WE’LL BEAT THE ODDS”, “JESUS, THE LAST MILE…”, and “MOTHERHOOD.”

KEITH BECK: (acoustic guitar, 12 string guitar, electric guitar) Besides being a prolific songwriter, Keith has justreleased his own CD titled Zigman Bird, which has received very positive reviews in many music publications, and web sites. Keith is a sought after guitarist and is often requested to perform on many other artists’ recordings.

Jamie! I will be coming for one set, as we discussed. Really looking forward to it. [Notehead is jealous!]

I don't have my ticket yet, but will get on the ball.

Pippi, Happy to hear that you can make a set - it should be quite a production!

For those of you not familiar with the music - here's a snippet from one of the songs:

WOW, the Rock and Roll Orchestra show tonight was beyond fantastic...

Now I know why they called "Alexander the Great." Maplewood is absolutely blessed to have such and array of incredible talent in our town. I suggest you scroll back to the top of the thread to see Jamie’s write up on Alex and to learn more about some of the other members of his group. I would highly recommend anyone to take the next opportunity to see their performance.

Thank you Jamie, Alex, Jerry, Peter, Mitch, Keith, Jim, and the rest of the group… Two thumbs up!

Thanks for coming, Art. It was a pleasure having you and your beautiful wife there. I must say that in spite of Alex's cold, this show was the best we have done so far. Thank you also to all the others that came. Thanks to Jim Buchannan for sitting in on a few songs (his double bass playing really added a lot to those tunes and to the night), and a special thanks to Jamie for his patience, his great attitude and for his vigilance in continuing to bring the Underground Concert Series to Maplewood. Thanks to Alex for letting me part of his vision and this musical experience...and for making it snow!

Thanks Art & Jerry,

It was a tremendous show, I couldn't think of a better way to end the season!

Thanks to all who came out to various shows throughout the year as well. It's always a challenge to run this series, it survives solely on ticket sales. I can't believe it's been going on for 6 years now and a little over 100 shows. I'm just glad that I've been able to maintain it for so long and have had so many remarkable musicians from throughout the world -stop by my hometown.
