Just saw this movie at a screening and thought I'd give you ten reasons to wait for the rental. First, Pocohantas was a traitor to her people, let's not make her a hero! Second, the Native people were depicted (AGAIN) as primitive and overly spiritual. They walked around lifting their hands to the sun during most of the movie. Third, I was totally uncomfortable with Colin Farrell touching the 13 year old star of the movie. He is already facing two paternity suits! Fourth, Still can't get over the perfect teeth of the English - we all know better. Fifth, the film was more a nature film of the James River estuary than a love story. Ang Lee's film was 10 times the showcase for nature. Sixth, my 13 year old fell asleep. Seventh, Way too much to ask of a 13 year old actress to carry the movie. Eighth, any one remember Pretty Baby? Ninth, too many inconsistencies in the script, which was limited to the English characters mumbling their lines and the Native people hooping and hollering throughout the movie. Tenth, Any movie that opens during the first of the year is bound to be a bomb! Sorry folks but IMHO as a Native American (with requisite qualifications) this movie is not Dances with Wolves. |

I happened to love The New World and had a completely different take on it. People either love Terrence Malick or hate him. I'm in the former category. |
