Our range is on an inside wall with no real opportunity for ventilation on that wall. Has anyone installed any type of stand-alone exhaust fan on an exterior wall? Experiences?

We actually have a downdraft stove in a peninsula in the middle of our kitchen. Prior to this reno, we had used a microwave with exhaust fan above the stove. I'd say the downdraft works better than the microwave did, but both are better than nothing.
