Okay, I do the minor electrical work myself, such as installing fixtures, replacing outlets. Well, we have a dead outlet, has been dead since we moved in a little over a year ago. I replaced it last weekend and found that it still doesn't work...no power seems to be coming from the wires in that box--checked it with a voltage meter. is this something I should be worried about and have an electrician come in to examine?

Maybe it's controlled by a wall switch?

is it on the first floor and is your basement ceiling exposed? You may be able to trace the wires and see where they go. Could be a bad breaker too, but that usually affects more than 1 outlet.

There is probably a loose wire somewhere in the circuit. I would probably have an electrician look at it.

Definitely not controlled by a wall switch and it is on the first floor. Will call an electrician to take a look...makes me worried to have an outlet dead like that...
