Has anyone replaced one of these? we plan to do it (apparently they are not so safe?). Any ideas what to expect in terms of cost?

Thanks!

We had the same type of panel and replaced it when we moved in. We upgraded to 200 AMP service and it cost us ~$1,500.

They have a rep. of causing fires. Apparently the company went out of business a number of years ago b/c of lawsuits. At least this is what our home inspector told us. We replaced it, with no upgrade to 200amp, for around $750.

Same deal as patmich. upgraded from 100 to 200 and our home inspector highly recommeded the switch b/c of the extremely bad rep of fed. pacific panels. Cost us about $1.5K including the permit.

The old FP circuit breakers tripped when they heated
up, instead of electrical impulse as modern ones do.
They went out of business but were ordered by a court to continue to produce breakers. They are available at Bloomfield Electric. They are expensive. Changing over to almost any other brand is a good idea. Peace out Mr. Shanabana

FP circuit breakers are available at Home Depot. Not expensive at all.

That said, once the hype of FPs "disaster" calmed down, there isn't any real evidence that they are a problem.

However, since every home inspector points this out, sooner or later they'll all be replaced.

Pete,
Which Home Depot? Bloomfield and Union have Square D, Murray,, etc. etc. but I've never seen an FP. I looked and looked, made phone calls, Bloomfield was probably the 10th place I tried.

I have a collection of re-cycled FP breakers. If you are in the business it pays to collect them.

What size are you looking for? I will see if I have it.

Later,
George
