Help! The bathtub stopper is stuck and I can't push it into the "up" position to hold bath water. I hear a clicking behind the hardware, but when i try to push up the stem, it's not budging. I have no idea how to fix this. Probably will need professional help...any ideas? How much a small thing (hopefully!) would cost? |

Did you remove the stopper recently and possibly put it back in wrong? If not, The linkage may have broken, in which case you have to remove the cover plate for the lever and fish out the linkage and either repair (if repairable) or walk it down to a plumbing or hardware store for a replacement. On a scale of 1-10 for DIY, 3. |

No one has ever removed the stopper so it probably just broke off -- maybe hubby can do it! If it's a level 3, I have faith in him! :-) |

sk8dad made such a repair. I would rate it 1 out of 10. ; ) the part is like $4. use a screwdriver, take off the plate and replace the thingey that gets broken or whatever behind it. Can he do it? YES HE CAN! |

I just did this last week. Word of warning, if you can pull out the stopper and it is covered with goup, when you put the stopper back in and adjust it correctly, much of that guoup may clog your drain. luckily, a great neighbor lent me their snake to work through that. now our tub stopper works great. btw...ours was just stuck and improperly adjusted. this dyi job cost me nothing but time. |

Often they just slip off the lever. Take the screws out at the lever plate. The assembly will come out. The lift lever should be attached to a wire that goes down. Reattach that wire. Other things can go wrong, but this fixes many. |
