We were happy with Empire carpet, the one you see on tv that advertises. True to their word, they came the next day!

The Square Yard in Summit (908) 277-4580 has excellent carpet/selection and fantastic installers.

For less money, and less fantastic, but still good, installers, Cove Carpet in Summit(908) 273-0220. They are both on Springfield about a block apart.

I'd use Square Yard for a tricky install. (They also do other flooring.)

We bought Home Depot carpet a few months ago for our new play room. It looks great & installation was not a problem. The contractor we were using for the basement didn't like that they didn't put down metal strips in a few areas. They explained that it wouldn't work with the tile next to the carpet in those areas but they did offer to staple it down more. They came back with in a week.

I used Home Depot too. I find that you can definitely get great deals when you find a sale item, but if you're looking to get this done by a certain date, either start earlier than you'll need it or prepare for delays.

We were able to buy the plushest carpet for our babies room for what we considered a great price (can't remember now unfortunatley,) but we were able to buy the highest quality which happened to come in the color we wanted and happened to be marked down.

Once Home Depot DID show up, we were more than happy with the end result.
