What is the proper way to clean and maintain aluminum siding (not vinyl)? Is it something we should have painted? Our house is white, and there are areas that need to be cleaned. I know power washing isn't recommended, but can't seem to find any definitive answers. Anyone with experience? THANKS.

Well the problem with old white aluminum siding is once it starts to Oxidise it loses it's luster, and when you rub it the white comes right off. The best alternative, based on the physical condition of the siding is to have it painted. The painting industry has come a long way with the availability of paints just for vinyl and aluminum siding. One word of caution make sure that prior to hiriing a contractor that you inspect all the siding, windows, doors and any thing that protrudes thru the siding. Apply or ask the painter to apply a real high quality uerethane caulk (Sikaflex) to all the openings. This will be your least expensive alternative to re-siding your home. I don't know if Rutgers painting does this but boy they are everywhere, and there work seems top shelf. Good luck |
