at the end of the fall, i had some miniature rosebushes planted on the side of my house. they bloomed a few blooms, and then the weather got cold. i didn't cut them back, in my naivete. this weekend i was at whole foods and i saw that their rose bushes (the inspiration for me getting mine) were cut back to sticks. uh oh. i guess i was supposed to do that.

what's going to happen because i didn't? they won't die, will they? can i do it in the spring.

i'm a nervous newbie gardener. i am intimidated by my plants.

Absolutely you can cut them in the Spring. Do it when the forsythia are in bloom. The only parts that will die will likely the the stems you would have cut down anyway.

Any time between now and when new growth buds start to swell is good. And don't be timid about it, either. I get the best results if I cut them back to about 1/3 their current size.
