Can anybody recommend a company that replaces an oil forced air furnace? The other similar threads are about gas furnaces and Air Group, etc do not do oil. Also, can anyone speak to whether it is worth converting to gas? The pros and cons. Thanks so much - our old furnace is kaput. Joy. Handygirl

Does your oil company do furnace replacements? We had Petro (our oil company) do an oil furnace replacement for us. We have steam heat. They did a great job. Every plumber we've had in for other reasons in the basement makes a comment that whoever installed it did an excellent job. Even the inspector made that comment. |

Petro is coming out to do an estimate. I also wanted to get a couple of other companies out. I'm happy to hear that you are pleased with Petro's work. Were they priced competitively? Can I ask how much the new steam furnace cost you? Thanks so much. Handygirl

Unfortunately, I don't remember how much it was (it was about 2 years ago). I have an email into my better half to see if he remembers |

In general I believe hot air furnances are simpler in design and the installation is easier than boilers. Switching to gas probably would make sense. However, you may have to remove your oil tank and if it is underground there probably will be issues. |

I've read the other thread about underground oil tanks. If you need to replace an oil burner and want to switch to gas, whom should you hire? I guess we need: 1. new gas furnace. 2. removal of oil tank. |

We used Ryan H&AC 908 687-4300 when we converted from oil to gas 5 years ago . We rec'd several estimates and they were somewhere in the middle . Our oil tank was in the basement and I don't remember who took it out. I do remember negotiating the price for the gas boiler w/Ryan. |

Our furnace died on Dec 23rd 2 years ago...Essex Oil came at 7:30 am on Christmas Eve and had the entire thing finished and operational by 4:00 the same afternoon. The cost was around $5500.00 |
