I know none of us is renovating a brownstone, but some might find this info from Design Within Reach interesting...

How I renovated my home and kept my sanity.

Join us Thursday, February 16 when Jon Brownstoner of
www.brownstoner.com shares the triumphs and tribulations of his
renovation experience. Afterwards, ask all you ever wanted to know
about managing your own renovation and discuss the finer points of
living in Brownstone Brooklyn. Bites and drinks will be served.

RSVP to brooklynheights@dwr.com by Wednesday, February 15.

We're presently renovating a brown stone in Jersey City. Gutted everything and jack up all floors some 3+ inches. It will be very nice once done but very expensive.

Michael, just curious, is jacking up floors practical if not gutting the place? Our floors sag away from the walls enough so we have to shim up the furniture and/or bolt it to the wall, but we're not doing major reno any time soon.

You can jack up the floors slightly if not gutting. However, you must do so slowly over time and know what your doing.
