Anyone know where I can get one, and does an electrician install these? |

Unless hooked up to a central station they aren't any real advantage over battery operated alarms in my opinion. When we built an addition in the late 1980s code required them, or so we were told and the one in the family room was so sensitive it went off every time we used the broiler. |

I have hard-wired smoke detectors on all three floors plus the basement. If one trips, they ALL trip... which is a nice thought to someone that might be in the attic when the first floor catches fire! Electricians would install these, though of course alarm companies would do it too... as Arsenal says. |

American Central, now B&H Security, installed ours. We love the system. Ed Hamberger was our installer and sadly he passed away quite suddenly a few years ago. But any time we've needed a B&H person here (to move motion detectors, etc as we renovated) the men always complimented how organized and well installed everything was - and that they could always tell Ed's work. One guy said "I love coming behind his work - it's so logical!" I think his brother is still in the business and I'm sure other installers would be trained similarly. Tell them you want an installation like Ed Hamberger would have done! Anyway, after installaion in our heavy-duty plaster ceilings and walls, you could not tell they had distrupted anything! We have motion, door, heat/cold alarms and smoke detectors all hardwired to the same system. There is a backup battery and you know when it is being used, like due to a power outage, because the code boxes will make a brief noise. We use Monital as the central station and have never had a problem. All "false" alarms in the past approx. 7 years have been due to our error or due to workmen. We've never had a system malfunction. We also were set up to have 2 zones, so we can secure only our bedroom and have the rest of the house able to be used without alarms, which works nice for us. (908) 277-0070 Tip: Don't bother getting an outside alarm. It does nothing but bother your neighbors. Inside only is plenty loud enough for someone breaking into your house to hear and cause them to run away. And if an early riser happens to burn toast at 4am, why wake the entire neighborhood. |
