I was thinking of installing one. Do any of you have experience with them?

Yes. Written about at length in other posts. Summary:
Installed Rinnai 1/2005 - the biggest indoor one they make. Suburban Energy is the local authorized installer I used. (Wound up using them for all HVAC needs.) Use it with natural gas. It was expensive initially. You can get a Fed. tax credit for installing one. No regrets.
