I am considering a couple of PC/wiring/audio projects in my 100-year
old plaster-walled house, and was interested to know if anyone
locally had done something recently like this and had any experience
to share. I would not (could not) do the work myself, and so need to
find the right people. The work I am considering is:

- wall-mounting a 23-24" LCD monitor (1920x1200 pixels) so that
no wires appears underneath it (I want it to look like a picture
hung above my desk) and allowing for rotation into portrait mode

- multi-room audio, perhaps a wired system like Russound or Nuovo,
or perhaps a wireless system like Sonos

Have you done this recently? Any advice you'd like to share?
In particular:

- Any local dealers you liked or not?
- Any local electricians/wiring installers you liked or not,
for this kind of work?
- Have you installed ceiling speakers on a porch?
- Did you wire for Ethernet while in the walls for audio?
- How good a job of wiring in walls of old house was done?
- How do you like your audio system?
- How do you like your wall-hung LCD monitor and was it worth it?

Thanks!

When we did a gut our kitchen + family room done I had 2 sets of speakers install in the ceiling... The wiring got done before the walls went up, so it was easy...

I bought one of those switches that distributes & controls up to 4 speaker sets... works well...

The actual speakers are easy to install, just cut out the ceiling as per the template given by the speaker company and slide the speakers in...

I would love to hear your story once you are done with your project... In the near future, I want to install wireless and control all music & maybe video through my PC...

Libertarian: Did you hang an LCD TV or an LCD PC monitor? If the latter, did you put the DVI/VGA cable in the cord channel and have an outlet put in the wall right behind the LCD, and did you use a mounting bracket that allows pivoting of the monitor?

Can you post a photo?

i hung a lcd pc monitor. i put the vga cable in the channel as well as run an SJ line up to the tv for AC. i hard wired the tv to the AC in order to keep a large plug from obstructing movement of the tv and for a cleaner look. i used a flat mount for the monitor that alllows a 20 degree tilt in any direction.
