I'd be interested in any experience or recommendations regarding reglazing a tub for color change. Our tub is in great condition - except it is pink. We are changing our toilet and sink and it would be nice if the tub could be changed to match - at a lower cost than replacement. What is the cost? Who did you use? What were the results? Good value? Any regrets on not replacing instead? Thanks very much!!! |

I've heard it's around 400 for just a tub. Try company: Ugly Tub. It only works for about 5 years. It's not really like the original, but it looks pretty good. You can get a new tub for under 200; still, you have to pay for the installation--i think this is a longer lasting value. |

Just did it last week with Premier Refinishing. Just the tub is $350. I had a 1965 turquoise tub. Now it's a 1965 white tub. Looks great. Just a short-term solution for resale. |

Thanks! Less expensive "update" is the idea. (the kids fell in love with a jet tub that cost $1500 - yikes!) Don't want to retile b/c our original old tile is pretty cool looking and the tub is surrounded on 3 sides by ceiling to floor tile walls. Jay060 - did you hear anything about lead in the product they apply? Did you stay in the home while it was done (I've heard the product is pretty strong smelling.) Was there a lot of mess involved? Thanks! |

I don't think there's lead in the stuff. It smelled strong, only directly in the area. He put in a window fan, which ran all day and night, so the fumes never entered the house. My daughter's room is right next to the bathroom. I had no concerns. There was no mess. They were very clean. |

Do a search and you will see more comments. I have an original 1930's cast iron tub that would require a complete gut of the bathroom to remove. I loved the tub but the finish was chipping. I had it reglazed by Mr. Ugly, who sanded it down completely and reglazed. It is used 2-3 times a week by my toddlers. 2 years later it has a couple of chips on the bottom but otherwise looks great. Just understand that it is temporary solution and that it doesn't hold up like a new tub or acrylic tub fitter. I personally would rather just redo the finish every 5 years and keep the original tub as long as the rest of my bathroom holds up. It was a smelly process but didn't seem to make too much of a mess. And the smell dissapated by the next day. Don't think there were any lead issues. |

Wendyn - what did they charge you? Do you clean it w/regular bathroom cleaners? (like Lysol Basin Tub/Tile cleaner?) My tub is in perfect condition. It's just too PINK to stand anymore. Would you recommend doing the reglaze just to change color? Thanks! |

Yes, that's them. Premier will tell you how to clean. They also give a 5 yr. guarantee. |

I think it was $500-600, don't remember exactly. It is a big tub, and we kept it white. My cleaning crew uses standard cleaners. I hate acrylic tub fitters, and I wouldn't gut my bathroom which was redone within the last 10 years because my tub finish was chipping. In addition I love the look of my old tub. So for me reglazing was a no brainer. So you just have to make a choice: Most practical/moderately expensive/least aesthetic: Get an acrylic tub fitted over the original. Least practical/most expensive/most aesthetic: Gut bathroom and get an entirely new tub. Middle of the road: Reglaze tub periodically. Oh and typically the guarantee doesn't include regular wear and tear, so when my toddler drops the handheld shower head on the bottom of the tub it doesn't count. But if the finish were to start rippling off in big sheets, they'd probably come and fix it. |

I used Nu-Bath (973)857-4722. It does only last for 5 yrs, and it does need to be retouched during that 5 yr period. Nu-Bath was very good about coming out to fix a chip or a bubble because they GUARANTEE it for 5 yrs. Great option and value I think (we also had horrid, scratched, stained pink tub!) |

I live in a apartment and the tub was refinished before I moved in, so I don't have any cleaning instructions. So what DO you use?

Sounds right. Price would be fine tuned due to variables such as a shower door or other obstructions. |
