I know this thread happens often on this site, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Classic Construction or Tico's Carpentry for a start to finish addition? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have had experience with Tico's. It depends on the workers you end up with. In the end, I had a bad experience although they made good faith efforts to remedy the situation.

Does anyone have recent experience with Porch Restoration of Hasbrouck Heights? We paid them a significant deposit for a custom storm door last fall, to be installed by December. We haven't heard from them since. Phone calls and e-mails go unanswered; a registered letter went unclaimed. Today their very slick, spiffy website seems to have vanished. I'd welcome specific information about this contractor or good advice about whether there's any hope of getting our deposit, which was more than $500, back.

We used Classic a few times. First they re-sheet rocked our attic/painted it. This job they did well. I don't quite remember all of the next job but part of it involved painting windows & inserts. The guy ended up breaking a window & not doing a great job. Ian, the owner, is a very decent guy & does of course promptly fix any problems. We have not really used them since because they tend to be more expensive.

namaste, my friend I think you've been had! While I don't know anything about "Porch Restoration" of Hasbrouck Heights, they might as well be from Lansing, Michigan. If you deal with a company that is not reasonably close to where you reside, you're not likely to find any of your local friends, neighbors or posters who have anything good or bad to say about them, since they have probably never heard of them!

When in doubt, check with State Consumer Affairs, the BBB or the building department to see if the company is on the up and up.

IMHO I think going to the BBB is a 100% total waste of time they are a franchise that has no real teeth when it comes to the law.
Contact the department of Consumer affars, as this is a branch of the government and will be able to help.

That is correct. Consumer Affairs is the way to go.
