I know that plenty of people have had positive experiences with Scott Bennett but he has really, really bungled work on our house. I suspect that we are not the only ones as he has switched insurance companies more than once during our ordeal. The ins. company engineers and inspectors have submitted reports confirming the extensive damage done by his crew. It took many months of unreturned phone calls and intermittant apologies and admissions from Scott before he finally gave us his insurance company info. We are held in limbo as the companies debate how much of the claim each is responsible for and the rain and squirrels keep coming in. We have non-functional flashing that was applied "just to make you think they put on flashing" [observed by a visiting contractor friend before we mentioned our roof fiasco], an interior wall that is covered with rivulets of water during the rainstorms (and resulting crumbly moldy sheetrock wall/ceiling), and large gaps welcoming tons of squirrels, daylight, and cold into our attic - I could go on. PL if you would like to see or hear more. |

runon, that's too bad. we used scott's when we first moved in roughly 3 years ago. we had large holes in the roof (welcoming squirrels, etc), a waterfall in one bedroom and internal gutters that were a mess. scott's replaced our entire roof, patched the holes, re-built fascia for our entire house and attach new external gutters. we had a couple of issues (as we do with all of the contractors we work with) but all in all, they did a great job. did your incident happen recently? maybe he has a new/unexperienced crew working for him now?

"maybe he has a new/unexperienced crew working for him now?" They have many more than one crew so only one new crew would probably have no effect. Afterall a company who services their customer, no matter the reason, after the sale is probably even more important than one who gives the absolutely lowest price. I have heard of many problems with highly advertised roofers.

Scott's Roofing first completely replaced our roof in Dec 2002 but most of the shingles were laid incorrectly. [skip over months of unreturned phone calls, apologies, broken promises by Scott]. They pulled off the first botched job and replaced the roof again in July 2004. This time around the roof and gutters are worse. In addition to the water damage in our upstairs hallway, we have just discovered terrible termite infestation in the basement windows (crazy gutter job runs water right along the foundation - we have tried to make temporary fixes with flexible extensions from Home Depot, etc). My husband worked on those decades-old windows a few years ago (sanded, painted, etc) and they were solid as a rock. Now they are crumbling and alive with critters. It is really sad to have bought this old house with the intention of putting heart and soul and savings into it to fix it up and then to watch it decline. We will clearly treat the termites ASAP (just discovered them) but the other stuff, tens of thousands of dollars to fix, arrghh! And insurance companies who tell us to fix it all before the claim is resolved but then don't send their engineer until MONTHS after they told us to fix it. Where's the logic? Supreme aggravation and sadness. |
