Ron Pate, KRB Pest Control, West Orange.

He'll get them out, fix their damage and block their entry points.

I haven't used either service, but Buckingham Pest Control has been well-reviewed on MOL as well.

Good luck! As creepy as it is, its a very "fixable" problem.

I've used Buckingham for squirrels. One visit = no more squirrels. They're nice guys too.

Get two havahart traps and some peanut butter and prepare to transport them to an area south of 78 or they will return.

I was at a friends house the other day discussing his "squirrel in the attic" problem. (I had my own experience a couple of years ago. I trapped 2 myself.) Anyway, as we were talking in the kitchen (on the 1st floor) we heard noises (like acorns falling and scratching feet) in the wall or on top of cabinets. I said we should take a look in the basement since it seemed to me that they had water supply pipes and/or toilet/sink vent pipes in the wall where noises came from.

As I'm looking up the shaft in the basement my friend spies a squirrel on the other side of the room. (This is where a video camera would have come in handy) I grab a screen lying on the floor and my friend grabs an empty tub. We try to close in on the bugger but he starts zipping around. The basement has no door to the first floor so I guard that escape route with the screen (the squirrel jumped on the screen at one point). [What's worse than a squirrel in the basement/attic? One in the living space!]

Eventually, we corner him under/behind the oil heating tank. Using wood planks we close all ways out except one - where my friend stood ready to throw the tub on top of the squirrel if he made a run for it. After 20 minutes of poking at him with a broom handle and pouring water/Draino on him he wouldn't budge. I couldn't believe it. So, we set up a Havaheart trap and left the basement.

Later than evening my friend finds the bugger in the trap. My friend decides to drown the thing (I wonder where he got that idea) in a garbage can filled with water. Unfortunately, he tried to do this in the basement instead of outside because the squirrel escapes and runs right back behind the tank.

So, my friend sets up the trap again but the next morning it was empty. He calls a pro who says a squirrel will never go into the same trap twice. The pro gets the bugger in his own trap after a few hours. My friend has a great story to tell, no squirrels in the house and his wallet is a little lighter.

I agree! Bludgeoning would be more humane. (However, drowning is less messy)

deportation: its not legal, but they never come back from exile. Union county might as well as be Siberia.

How do you know for sure? They all look the same to us and without DNA or paw printing, there'll always be a doubt. I opt for retirement with extreme prejudice!

This is who we used. It cost us about $250/hole, but they installed one-way traps, left them up for a week, and when we didn't hear the squirrels running around anymore, they came back to remove the traps and seal up the holes with something involving metal, so the squirrels (and raccoons) couldn't eat through it. Expensive, but effective.
