Hi all. I'm in somewhat urgent need of having a single room painted (new baby coming VERY soon!) and my usual contractor seems to have flaked and disappeared. Any recommendations are appreciated. I have called Albaro but he has several big jobs and might not be available when I need him. I'm hoping this can be done next week.

Thank you!

We recently had rooms painted by a guy named Marco. He came recommended and did a fine job for us. 973 395 0159.

I appreciate the DIY ethic, and have done my share of painting and tiling, etc. around the house, but don't you guys think that if I was able to do it myself I would have bothered with this posting in the first place?

If you still need someone call Greg at Painting Choice he did a great job in my home and I have recommended him several times and everyone was pleased. I already mentioned it to him and he can take care of it. 973-371-5773. Be careful to use paint that is safe for babies as you are supposed to air the room for six weeks if you use standard paint. Just had the same situation with my 4 week old grand baby. Let me know if you need more info.

I didn't know that about paint and babies. If he has to live in our bedroom for a few weeks, well, he'll probably be doing that anyway, so no worries. Who makes "baby-safe" paint, anyway?

Thanks for the all the recs. I tried Marco but didn't get any answer or voicemail. Peter from P&P is coming by later today. If he doesn't have time, I'll give Greg a call.

With a new baby on the way the last thing you need to be doing is patching and sanding and cleaning up brushes and drips.

Try my handyman - Marc Persaud, cell ph# 973-698-1447, he's prompt, tidy, he has a small crew and he can often squeeze in a rush job.

He's great at prep (which is the part I hate doing) His prices are right in the middle.

I've also heard good things about Rutgers' interior painting service, "New Colors" - ph # is 973-763-0034

FYI - I read somewhere about newer latex paints with lower toxic emissions, might be worth checking out for the bambino/a's room.

Good luck!

I second Lydia's recommendation. I used Tony for a wide variety of things, starting with a simple front door/shutters painting (and some repair). Worked up to a bathroom facelift and a reroofed porch. He's very tidy and reasonable, and can respond quickly to emergencies.

Cynny-

Tony/Marc did a ton of little jobs around our house, and he's so nice and professional. He can basically do anything on short notice that doesn't require an architect.

He broke down our front door, tore it down to it's bones and transformed a '70's goopy way-too-much embellishment into an Arts-and-Crafts door for around $200 - about $1,000 less than a new door would have cost us.

Yep, he's the stuff. One of his guys -- maybe it's Marc? -- is excellent at tile, too. When we have some $$ again I look forward to bring them in for a kitchen facelift. We talked floor replacement, new counter, sink, cabinet painting/fixing (we have good plywood cabinets that are kinda 50's and I'm happy with them) for around $4K. That's my kind of home improvement price tag.

This inquiry was about painting, and I do think it's a sweet spot for Tony -- including associated repairs, prep. Did a mess of it in a neighbor's, along with plaster repair/replacement.

I've hired Pete from P&P. He's starting Wednesday. Thanks for all your suggestions.
