Anyone with recent experiences with refinishing floors? Costs? Time required? Did you have to vacate the house? Any and all discussion/advice welcomed.

We had our floors done by Expert Hardwood in Verona. It was a truly disappointing experience - even if they were doing the work for no charge I would suggest you avoid them!

We had our floors refinished by Distinctive Flooring after we bought our house but before we moved in. I think they took 10 days but this work was done in July when it was hot and exceptionally humid. Sanding followed by a coat of stain which had to dry for 1 - 2 days followed by 2 coats of poly that took 4 days each to dry. The floors turned out beautifully and the guys were very easy to work with. In fact, we had them come back about a year later to lay down a floor in a new room. They did a great job matching the wood from the rest of the house. I recommend them although I understand they are a bit pricier than others. PL me if you need their phone number.

We used Regal Floors. We loved them. We had the floors done before we moved in. They did all the floors in our house in July (like Spare_o, totally hot and humid)and they came out beautifully. They are exceptionally meticulous about the floors and were able to maintain their quality given that we had only a 10 day window before moving in. I would HIGHLY recommend them. Their pricing was very reasonable as I had shopped around quite a bit.

I used European Flooring in Montclair. They did a wonderful job. You can figure $2.50 per sq foot for water sealant and $.50+ additional per ft for any staining, etc.... We had the whole house done including stain in about 7 working days. It's much easier if your house is empty, but if not, I believe they'll just adjust the price and time accordingly. We also had to have some carpet removed so that added to the time. Normally, it should have been a 5 day job. It was worth it, they look brand new.
