In the process of putting new lighting (recessed cans) in the kitchen to replace the 70's era recessed flourescents... Decided to pull down most of the sheetrock ceiling -- rather than patch the zillion holes. What do I find? buried under 2" of plaster in the middle of the kitchen -- a junction box -- the wires to the flourescents (which I now see were not original) -- and the wires to the fixtures were also buried in a "channel" that had been cut in the sheetrock and also mudded over... (to say nothing of the fact that they just pulled out most of the insulation around all of this "installation"!) YIKES! Well, I sure am glad I'm getting rid of this nightmare. NOW -- I need to find someone who will put up new sheetrock and soffits... Ideas? -- thx - Pete |

Michael -- is Gary Kurtz an electrician or a carpenter/ sheet rock guy? Is your business carpentry and such? (although this may be too small a job for you). Thanks for the info -- Pete |

Paul Lewis form Two Guys From Newstead has a guy who has been sheetrocking for 40 years. They just sheetrocked three bedrooms in my house for a very reasonable price. Paul's number is 201-787-6487. |

Spqr - if you used Kenney, through Paul, we just used him as well -- he did an incredible job with our basement ceiling and walls - he preserved as much head room as possible and worked around all the stray pipes hanging down the ceiling. Excellent work. |

LilLB, it was Kenney. He did a great job. I did not want to go this route because I was concerned about losing molding profile and how the edges would be finished up against the moldings, but Paul convinced me otherwise. The finished product is amazing and you would never be able to tell by looking at the moldings that there is 1/4 inch sheetrock butted up to them. They are coming back to finish a room in our attic in a few weeks. The other positive aspect is that both Paul and Kenney are local SO/Maplewood guys. |
